Coffee Seeks Its Own Level. 1990. If one person alone lifts his cup, coffee overflows the other three cups. All four people need to coordinate their actions and lift simultaneously. Inspired by the principle “water seeks its own level”. I had been working on a series of projects using basic scientific principles learned in high school as a means to explore architectural issues.

Burning House series by Carrie Schneider

"Between 2010 and 2011, Carrie Schneider took twelve trips to northern Wisconsin, each time building a small wooden house, rowing it to a tiny island, setting it on fire, and photographing and filming it. The endurance of her performative action is mirrored in the fortitude of the house, which, although perpetually engulfed in flames, never seems to burn down, even as the times of day and seasons shift."

Daniel Spoerri's Snare-Pictures

Swiss artist Daniel Spoerri is probably most well known for making what he called “Snare Pictures.” Spoerri and his friends, mostly fellow Fluxus members, would casually consume a meal around a table, and when the meal was complete, Spoerri would miticulously adhere all plates, bowls, cups, silverware, cigarette butts, vases, flowers, dirty napkins, bones, sauces, and crumbs to the tablecloth, cut the legs off of the table, and hang the results on the wall.
