Re the copyright stuff - it could be that your performance strongly resembled another piece already copyrighted. You should be able to submit an appeal since it is your own performance

It says “video uses this song’s melody” where the song is the piece I’m playing (at least presumably - it just says Flute Concerto in D Minor and doesn’t mention a composer), and it’s a composition claim so I think it’s literally BMG Rights Management (US), LLC, ARESA (yes I copied that from the bit that says who the copyright owners are) are being a bit shit. The other hilarious bit tho is that it’s not the whole piece, just the last two minutes (feat wrong and cracked notes lol) so idek what is happening.

I've uploaded my recital to YouTube, and some pieces got copyright claimed for melody (which is not a strike, just can't monetise which I can't anyway), and some of my pieces were modern enough for them to still be under copyright, like muczynski sonata and a piece by Robert Dick, so that's fine. But why the fuck is CPE Bach stuff under copyright??? Why is BMG holding rights to a composer dead 232 years???

Just automatically packed my flute away without realising, just as I was finishing I was like wait there's more I need to practice?? But the body's saying nope that's it for today

other composers: we shall use notes in the fourth octave sparingly and usually only at climactic points. This will have the advantage of keeping the flutist and those listening to the piece alive

@theundercoverflutist hate to break your heart but like when you have braces for years you do get used to that embouchure so much so that when I got my braces off

I couldn’t play for a whole year.

And it wasn’t like braces where I could sound everything it would just be fluffy, no, like my middle register was just air, not even a hint of any note for a whole ass year

Getting braces off was far worse for me than on in terms of how much it messed with my flute playing

Oh that sucks!! I think it does depend both on how long you've had them on for and how much your embouchure adapted (plus individuals are different). There's definitely a lot of stories out there about how getting braces off helped their sound. For me (I had them on for 2 years) I took a week or 2 to adjust but then my sound was basically the same.

I wish op the best tho!! Braces suck generally so good to dump that!

Why Today, You're Gonna Practice

Today, you’re gonna practice. Why is that?

You are awesome. Okay, let’s get this out of the way first thing - you’re great. You’re an awesome musician. That’s why you’re going to sit down with your instrument - because you’re just that cool.

You are going to persevere. You’re going to practice because you know that it’s just, a SUPER great feeling when you do. You know that perseverance is the primary virtue a musician can have, and you have it in spades. So despite how comfy your couch or bed is, you’re gonna persevere through leaving it anyway. Plus, absence makes the heart grow fonder - your bed will feel even nicer once you come back to it!

You know tomorrow never comes. If your lazy impulses, your friends, or your family are telling you that you can practice tomorrow, you should ignore them. Tomorrow never comes, after all. You’re gonna practice today, because a long enough string of “practicing tomorrows” turns into “haven’t practiced in months” before you know it. Practice every day that it’s today.

You know past failure does not define future success. Hey, if you didn’t practice yesterday, guess what? It doesn’t matter! You didn’t practice a day in your life before you started playing your instrument, and look at how far you’ve come since then. Yesterday no longer matters - you can never change it again. However, you are in a perfect position to change today. So when you practice today, you’re defining your future success perfectly.

You’re going to make yourself do it. You’re going to practice because right now - literally, the instant you finish this post - you’re going to get up and do it. You’re going to practice right…

Reichert 3 at dotted crotchet = 53 (still easy, go faster next time)

5 note scale double tonguing exercise from 162-172

Telemann fantasia 6, mvt 2. Worked on phrasing including dynamics. Could push a little faster in the future but it is at an ok tempo

So I don't generally practice very well or consistently, especially when I'm not busy (and considering it's summer break, I'm not at all busy). So I want to try practice more and better by keeping track of it here, starting from today

Mozart G maj, note learning exposition and development. Need to check articulations and dynamics by listening before I next practice this as my edition is dodgy af
