More worst case scenarios because I am wEaK for that moment when character has to keep powering on even as their body is begging to just D R O P 1. Singer who is just beginning their much anticipated tour and finds themselves feeling like shit but NO they can absolutely NOT be getting sick no no no no no no no. 2. Character in a leadership position (captain, commander, dictator idk) is leading their forces into battle and it’s only the third or so day of long tedious fighting and they need to be in top shape but uh oh their enemies are in the midst of cold/flu season and that’s not working out too well for them. 3. For some reason a character is a fugitive (whether or not they are actually guilty of something who knows) and they have to constantly be on the move but what’s this? A fever? 4. Shit shit shit the character procrastinated way too much and suddenly it’s 10 pm the night before an important essay is due and they have a HORRIBLE cough and fever and their nose won’t stop itching and their throat hurts like all hell and how they wish they’d done this sooner but nope now they have no choice but to work until it’s finished, despite all misery.

When the sickie wakes up feeling absolutely awful but they don’t want to disturb their sleeping partner, so they just sit silently shivering and crying because they’re achy and cold and their head hurts and they just can’t sleep.

My favorite thing

I'm all for worst case scenarios. Sinking ship? The water soaked them and now they've got the flu, and a raging fever to boot. For some reason I always find caretaking the most endearing with few resources, like on a lifeboat. Spy mission? They catch a terrible cold on their first day and have to remain unnoticeable. Cue a shit ton of makeup and a scarf to hide their nose. Stranded somewhere? CATCH ALL THE SICKNESS.

When sick characters lie on a cold floor or lean against cold metal like a table or wall or something to feel less sweaty and hot.

When the quiet, gentle character wakes up feeling absolutely miserable but no one notices when they're quiet and withdrawn because that's how they always are, and it's with a great sense of defeat that they finally come crawling for help to one of their friends, who feels so guilty for not noticing sooner.

SickFic Prompts

I’ve been craving SickFic, so have some prompts and feel free to tag me here at @wordmage because I would love to see your takes on the prompts below. Feel free to add more, or use it for RP/art, whatever. I plan to try and fill them all out, myself.

99.9% Immunity - (character) never gets sick, right? Wrong.

Elephant in the Room - (character) is sick, but for some reason - rank, personality, etc - no one is talking about it

Heroes Don’t Take Sick Days - there’s no time to rest when you have to save the world, so (character) has to push themselves even when miserable

Insult to Injury - as if being injured wasn’t enough, (character) is getting sick too

Ill Timed - it’s the worst possible time for (character) to be sick, but their body didn’t get the memo

Irreplaceable - (character) is the leader/boss and isn’t able to take personal time off, even when they’re under the weather

It’s Nothing - (character) insists they’re fine, right up until they collapse

Medic Down - every group seems to have a primary caretaker. How do they handle it when (character) is the one sick?

Milking It - if (character) has to be sick, they’re at least going to get as much pampering out of others as they can

Not a Word - (character) said they don’t get sick, and isn’t in the mood for anyone to remind them while they recover

No Rest for the Wicked - the big bad (character) has more to worry about than the good guys

Open Secret - everyone knows (character) is sick, but they’re trying so hard no one has said anything

Persuasive Partners - (character) is sick, and refusing to stay put; their partner(s) give them a good reason to stay in bed

Stepping Up - boss/leader (character) is clearly miserable, so the others go out of their way to take as much of their workload as possible

Suffer in Silence - for whatever reason, (character) doesn’t want anyone to know they’re sick, and does everything they can to hide it

Take One Down… - (character) gets sick, and spreads it to the rest of the group

Team Mom/Dad - (character) is the one to always take care of others on the team

The Wolf Cries True - (character) has been known to exaggerate or even pretend they’re sick, only this time they’re telling the truth

This is Your Fault - (character A) was clingy while they were sick, and now (character B) has it

Why Didn’t You Say? - (character) hasn’t been feeling well, making for some uncharacteristic behavior, and their partner(s)/team/friends are much more understanding once they realize why

Cute Sickfic Things

• I’m all for characters at their worst, but can we talk about Character A walking in on Character B wearing their sweater, eyes glassy and nose red

• When the Character B is wearing a hoodie pulled low over their face and hands in sweater paws, wiping their nose pathetically yet so adorably

• Character A walks in with a “Honey, I’m home” only to be greeted by Character B wrapped up like a burrito, blanket trailing forlornly on the floor

• Character B is so cold and feverish, and the loving Character A stays up all night cuddling with them, making herbal tea and giving medicine until they fall asleep

• When Character B is feeling extremely weak and reaches their arms out to Character A to please carry them because they don’t have the strength

• When Character B whines and Character A shoves them away until they realise that Character B never complains unless they’re sick and immediately begins to look after them

• Character B is feverish and can’t sleep, but Character A runs a cool hand through sweaty hair and hums a lullaby until they fall asleep

• Character B is just recovering from the vomiting bug and is so weak so Character A spoon feeds them food and helps them drink water

• Fevers make Character B hyper, so Character A gently traps them on their lap and hushes them until they fall asleep, back pressed to Character A’s chest

• Character A’s wonderfully cool fingers brushing against Character B’s sweaty, hot forehead and them leaning towards the cool hand

• Stubborn Character B finally finishes that essay and Character A wraps them in a blanket and drags them to the couch to care for them

Person A and B are both sick. However, both still claim they’re in perfect health, and try to care for one another despite feeling ill.

Cute Whump Things

• Character B bleeding heavily while Character A tries to staunch the blood but Character B is more concerned about the fact that stoic Character A is sobbing and panicking

• When help is a few hours away and Character B has to stay awake, Character A rambles loudly about random stuff, trying not to break down and cry and to keep them awake

• Character B’s head hurts and Character A fusses as their thighs are used as a cushion, saying that it’s probably not comfy and Character B says that it’s perfect because they get to stare up at their face and it has a great view

• Character B is in so much pain and Character A knows it, so they let Character B hold their hand as tight as they want, even when it hurts and it feels like a finger just broke

• That moment when stubborn Character B feels awful and Character A notices and makes their day easier by giving them easy tasks and watching over them with concern to make sure they don’t pass out

• When stranded together, Character B is cold and Character B begrudgingly agrees to cuddle with them only so they won’t die, but ends up enjoying it and refuses to budge, saying that it’s for survival purposes only

• After falling into ice-cold water, Character B is shivering and Character A takes off their shirt and does skin-to-skin contact, trying to keep calm because Character B is their crush and cannot die

• Character B gets stabbed and Character A quite literally rips up their favourite shirt to make a temporary bandage, Character B protests and Character A tells them to shut up it’s just a shirt

• Character B has a bullet wound and tells Character A to take it out, but they’re afraid of blood so Character B soothes their tears and panic as they take it out, patting their arm in assurance as they hide their grimaces

• Character B is recovering from an attack meant for Character A and searches for them, only to find them in tears and crying that it should have been them how dare they scare them like that and having to comfort them

• Character A and Character B were both injured, but Character A sneaks in and cuddles up next to them because they were lonely and both being afraid to hurt each other, settling for nose kisses and cheek pecks

like when a character sniffles and it makes them need to sneeze, but then sneezing makes their nose run so they have to keep sniffling to keep things in check, but every time they sniffle it triggers more sneezes that lead to more sniffling that triggers more sneezes … rinse and repeat  (ﾉ◕ヮ◕)ﾉ*:・ﾟ✧
