Stargate Atlantis "The Seer"
Dissociation Starters
FROM THE EMPTY
“No… I’m not hurt.”
“I don’t…”
“… Sorry. Say that again?”
“Sometimes I just … do this. It’s fine.”
“No, it’s bad, but I’m. Like. I’m fine. Just give me like, ten minutes.”
“I don’t - I don’t remember.”
“You waited how long?”
“… I don’t like [trigger].”
“Will you walk me home?”
“I love you, I just… I can’t… I’m dissociating.”
“I.. don’t know how I got here.”
“I didn’t feel that. At all.”
“Did I zone out?”
“Don’t touch me.”
“My name is [name]. I’m [age]. I live in [place]. My name is [name] -”
“I can’t think of anything to do that isn’t stupid, canyouhelpme?”
“How did you find me?”
“I think I’m in [different State]. Will you come?”
FROM THE FULL
“Hey. [Name]? Look at me.”
“I’m right here.”
“How long have you been sitting here?”
“What happened?”
“Your shirt is on backwards.”
“Is it okay if I touch you?”
“It’s windy today. This bench has a nice texture, don’t you think?”
“Do you mind if I sit with you?”
“Okay, I’ll be here.”
“Hey - come in. Don’t worry about it. I’m glad you came.”
“Drink some water. It has ice.”
“I’ll run a shower.”
“Let me wash it for you.”
“I can’t clean you up if I can’t touch you. Will you give me your hand?”
“We’ll ride it out. You’re safe here.”
“I’ll put on a movie.”

trauma (part 2)
trigger warnings apply for … well, trauma. no specific trauma listed but post includes mentions of: reporting trauma, PTSD, self-blaming, and self-doubt.
“It wasn’t your fault.”
“You didn’t do anything to provoke them.”
“You should have been believed the first time.”
“I don’t think it matters how you reacted.”
“Did you report it?”
“You’re the expert about it. It was your experience.”
“What aren’t you telling me?”
“Something’s hurting you. Talk to me.”
“Do you want me to help you make a report?”
“It can take years for PTSD symptoms to develop. A few months isn’t abnormal.”
“And you did that… alone?”
“’I survived it’ isn’t usually what you say about positive experiences.”
“How long has it been a problem?”
“Do you want me to come to the hospital/psychologist/etc with you?”
“… Well. Fuck them.”
“That wasn’t fair.”
“You’re a good person, you know.”
“What you did before or during or after it doesn’t matter. It still shouldn’t have happened.”
“I’m not here to judge you. I just want to help.”
How’s she doing? Stabilised but still very weak and getting weaker.
there's no fixing anything, not properly, not ever. grief stains city in a way it has never done to such an extent before - this time, the loss feels universal. brunette has never been a crier, never worn devastation on her sleeve. ( the worse things get, the less she shows. walls were built a long time ago and maeve doesn't know how to knock them down without drowning herself in it all. )
how many times, over life, have people considered her cold or uncaring simply because her emotions aren't what's expected of 'true' grief or loss? they're different: worlds apart in plenty of ways, but they were both close to elizabeth, they're both stuck with the absence that now lingers. ❝ does it ever gets under your skin? ❞ sigh comes, leaning over balcony to stare at view of city below. ❝ being told your grief isn't enough? ❞
Sheppard's quiet for a long moment while he wonders if she knew her words would sting as much as they do. In the end, he laughs. Briefly, with a slightly frantic edge to it.
He can't even look at her directly, because he might not be able to stop laughing, that ugly, bitter laugh, and laughing is dangerous. It might shake something loose in him.
"Sure." The laughter is gone, replaced by a jagged rawness. And he says again, "Sure. But they don't really want it anyway. Some of us have to be the ones that don't seem to feel it like they do; I think people need it. Stability."
There's a flicker of guilt. He'd seen Elizabeth holding back her emotions any number of times to be strong for everyone. He should've tried harder to talk to her in those moments, but he'd always convinced himself not to for one reason or another.
"Pretty fucked up, huh?"
After Tuesday, work is going to become SO much less stressful, and I'll have time to start writing more here like I've been wanting to.
when she crosses her arms before her, it's neither defiance nor challenge nor annoyance ( all things it so often signifies with others ). her tone is mild, almost curious, when she asks, ❛ why? ❜ she can consider several possible answers, perhaps foremost among them the fact that he is the military commander of this expedition, and that carries a certain responsibility with it for the lives beneath his command and beneath his protection.
elizabeth is not military and has despised the military plenty, but even she knows that if every military officer put himself in danger before those beneath his command, very little would get done. she has felt it herself, each time she remains behind within the city walls, overseeing while risking little even as those for whose lives she is responsible face perils and die. they have lost too many, yet she is more useful to them all where she is, not putting her life on the line.
❛ why should it be you? ❜
He squints at her, because to him it seems obvious. So obvious that he's not entirely sure how to put it into words in a way that doesn't seem almost silly. Like why do you eat? Because you're hungry. Because otherwise you'd starve. Because it tastes good.
Slowly, he begins, "I didn't end up in this position because I'm a good leader. I'm probably not one, by pretty much any standard. I'm reckless, obviously. Stupid even. Don't think you'd argue with that."
He scrunches his nose. That's not exactly how he'd meant to say this, but none of it's wrong, so there's no reason to try to walk it back.
"The way I see it, what I bring to the table is that reckless is what's necessary out here sometimes, and if it ever stops being necessary, somebody else should take my place anyway."
