Look all I'm saying is it's wild to color the Two Lovers red and blue when they're earth nation tribes if you're not gonna have symbolism behind it.
two lovers, forbidden from one another,
a war divides their people... ⛰️
as much as the Gaang might be exasperated by Katara's reluctance to accept Zuko in the group, I think it reflects a particularly pragmatic view of forgiveness on her part. his was an extraordinary sort of wrongdoing and harm, not just against them as a whole, but against her specifically; it's only natural that it would take extraordinary reparation for her to move past it. what's interesting about this is that we know she doesn't feel obliged to forgive, because she doesn't grant that to the soldier who killed her mother. unlike Aang, she doesn't believe in indefinitely many chances or in forgiveness for its own sake—there is a line which, once crossed, cannot be walked back.
but it's exactly this pragmatism that gives Zuko a concrete target. he can redirect all that guilt and shame into the effort to earn Katara's trust and forgiveness, in spite of everything. and because he can see for himself that this is not something so easily given, it becomes all the more valuable when he finally achieves it. their bond is forged from his resolution to compensate for his own violent wrongdoing. it's impossible that this should not be an intense, tempered bond.
Zutara as "pride and prejudice "

I feel like we talk a lot in anti-kataang circles how Aang puts Katara on a pedestal, but we don't talk enough about how Katara does the same thing to Aang, although it leads to an entirely different type of imbalance in their relationship.
She talks about how growing up, she always had hope that the avatar would return and end the war. For her, he was a symbol before he was a person. She believes this is the only way to end the war, not because of any traits he possesses, but because he is the avatar. And therefore, protecting him is her life's mission. And even though that develops into a relatively healthy friendship, it creates imbalance in the romantic sides of their relationship, which we see in canon.
She feels she has to take care of him, talking him down from his rages when he enters the avatar state and constantly standing by his side and giving him advice and providing a safe place for him, no matter what she is feeling. And to some degree, Aang takes advantage of that, as seen in the Ember Island Players when he kisses her without her consent. And while Aang feels comfortable talking to Katara about his feelings, she rarely reciprocates by confiding in him, and rarely reciprocates his romantic interest in general. She constant supports him, but is ambiguous in her exact feelings towards him. Does she see him as a boyfriend, little brother, or simply as the savior of the world who she has a close friendship with?
Anyway, while Aang sometimes thinks of Katara as a perfect girl who can do no wrong or the beautiful object of his affections, she also sometimes thinks of him as not just a person, but a vessel for something greater. He is her last hope, and because of that, she can't upset him or risk the fate of the world by saying no to him, even if she doesn't feel the same way about him that he does about her.
thinking about how, when Zuko jumped in front of Azula's lighting, he had every reason to believe he was about to die. he didn't hesitate in that split-second despite the certainty that he wouldn't be able to redirect the lighting this time. this wasn't an abstract sort of risk—he was staring down the barrel of that gun and chose to put himself in its way. how many people have acting to make a sacrifice of that magnitude and immediacy for Katara? i can only think of one other…
and note, also, that this says something of Katara's willingness to be vulnerable around him, of all people…
I didn't think. I just helped.
He can't stand the idea of her getting hurt. What I love the most is they can be enemies or not, the thing he will always do is protect her 🙂↕️.
What are you, some kind of flame lover now ?
Me : Oh yeah, she is 😏
Zuko’s lightning scar is essential to his character arc. Removing it cheapens his story. Bryke sabotaged their own work because they hate a ship.
He gets his face scar from an Agni Kai with his father that he doesn’t want to fight. He was challenged to that Agni Kai because he “betrayed” his father by trying to protect nobody fire nation soldiers from being treated as cannon fodder. This is framed as a sacrifice.
He gets his chest scar from jumping into danger to sacrifice himself for a genocide victim that he built a connection with and betrayed. Had he died, and Katara not bloodbended his ass, because ain’t no way he redirected that lightning, he would have sacrificed the future of the fire nation and the world.
Removing his scar and not Aang’s is even stupider. Katara almost healed Zuko’s face scar, but saved Aang instead, because of his betrayal. Had she healed Zuko, Aang would have died. She would have unintentionally allowed the only “hope for the world” to die. Eventually, she did get to heal Zuko after he was electrocuted by his own sister, in a direct parallel to the Crystal catacombs.
Aang also turned away from Azula before he was shot, representing his tendency to be selfish and flighty, at the risk of harming others. Zuko, on the other hand, dove right into danger, not even considering the consequences. He needs to bear that chest scar for his arc to come full circle. Saying his scar is gone because he just “got better” is sacrilegious.
Chapter 24: Tomorrow
Katara and Zuko manage to steal a quiet moment together over tea, where conversations about family, the future, and tomorrow's hunt bring them closer than ever. But one innocent embrace followed by an unexpected audience confirms Katara's earlier worries. The glacier lily incident wasn't just a misunderstanding.
