You only ship Zutara cause Zuko looks good. You only ship Zutara cause you self insert into Katara. You only ship Zutara cause you wanna f Zuko and blah blah blah ... I heard this stupid excuses so many times its crazy. And I know its most of times by antis who cant come up with any better excuse than this but ...
Lemme do a tiny bit of deep dive on why I ship Zutara JUST cause I can and cause I want to ♡♡
P.S. This is my own thoughts about it and why I personally prefer Zutara. So not everyone thinks the same as me and thats completely okay and valid and I have no problem with different opinion. As long as you are respectful and nice about it. I dont have anything against any of the characters and I love all of them. So if you will be by any means rude or attacking in replies or anything cause of random thought about a ship ( thats fictional may I add ) I will block you.
Either its the old show or the new live action show, I dont mind either and I legit love both Zuko and Katara in both of the versions. And I have so many reasons why I ship them so much.
☀️ Them being sun & moon type of ship.🌙
Like Zuko said you rise with the moon, I rise with the sun. Always gonna be one of the best quotes in any fictional world. I will never get over this single quote cause it describs them so perfectly. With this quote it was basically what got the fire in me and I started to get interested into them. Its that thing that got me exploring more about them. I was since forever a enemies to lovers trope lover ( my first were Kiara and Kovu when I was a child ), so no wonder it got me so interested. And boy I was not disappointed ngl cause the more I explored about them the more I got interested. Them being oposites is one of the reasons for it. I love that fact, I love that their powers are so different ... But on the end of the day its that different powers that make a balance. It gives me such yin yang vibes and thats one of my favorite things.
Not to mention them as well being The Painted Lady and The Blue Spirit like excuse me. That makes it even better. One of my favorite things live action did was let them meet. It was so good and at the same time the betrayal was way worse and more heartbreaking. I think live action making The Painted Lady and The Blue Spirit meet was the best thing for both of their characters. Not only for the ship itself but also The Painted Lady and The Blue Spirit is a very important part of both Zuko and Katara. Them working together as them, trully made it show how they work so good in a team and it already opens up a chance for their connection for the future.
Zuko always protecting Katara.
In both version this is one of my favorite things about the ship. In live action of course its already shown a bit earlier cause Zuko already helps her as Blue Spirit but he always protects her in a second shes in danger. Its like he doesnt even like the thought of her being in danger. Like he said in live action, he didnt think. He just did it. And that tells a lot. And I know that her friends ( the gaang ) would all do this for her cause shes their friend. But it just hits different with Zuko considering they are enemies. Especially thats visible in live action version. But also in old version as well, when Katara is completely angry and pissed off with him ( validly so, as she should be ), he still doesnt think twice and still protects her. He knows shes angry and that she doesnt want to be around him at all, yet he doesnt care about that in case of danger. And yeah I know he has a good heart and even if hes the enemy at first, he does try his best to help people but when it comes to Katara he tries it more hard and it shows. He protecting her, risking his own life ( more than once as well ), is one of my favorite things.
Them being equals in every single thing.
They are equals in legit every single thing and I mean everything and thats one of the biggest reasons I love the ship. They are equally powerful. Their personalities are equal as well ( not the same personalities but equals ). What I mean by that is the fact that Katara doesnt have to say anything for Zuko to know when shes not feeling the best and when something is bothering her, on top of it he doesnt try to stop her when he wants to do something ( especially the part where she goes and tries to find her mothers killer ). Not saying Aang was wrong to try to stop her btw, not at all cause he was right with what he said as well. But at the same time Zuko instead goes out of his way to help her and not stop her. To me, in my eyes this is more the thing that he knows she will do the right thing on the end, so hes not worried that she would kill anyone. He trust her and at the same time he understands what shes going through and what she feels, its why he helps her.
Another thing where they are equals is Zuko doesnt need Katara to basically mother him. I know Katara is doing this cause she cares about her friends but at the same time it gives me off shes a sister/mother like figure to them all. One of the reasons why I cant see Katara and Aang as a couple. Theres this line for me ( its not the same for everyone and I understand that. So Im not bashing people who ship them and dont see it the same way I do. ). This line for me is one thing is caring for someone and another thing is legit being like a whole mother to someone. For me its a line that shouldnt be crossed cause you can care for someone without being like a mother to them. And this is what bugged me always with Aang and Katara. They give me off Katara caring for him like a mother instead of a partner vibes. And I just cant overlook it and I do not like it. Love both the characters but just no thanks. I think Aangs personality matches nore with Tophs one ngl, in my eyes he needs more a carefree person like Toph around. Cause even for the future, when they are adults, I always feel like Katara is under Aang, less important, only there to be Avatars wife and a mother to his kids which I dont feel like it suits Katara at all ngl. This makes them not equals in this, in my opinion. Which if we take Zuko for example, she would never be this way. And heres why.
We know water tribe and fire nation hate each other completely and theres of course a reason why. These types of bond is very hard to heal, almost impossible. But the thing is Katara managed to forgive Zuko and if in the future she would fall in love with him, there would be a possibility she would be able with this to bring their people together and heal this wounds. The road would be very long and very hard, for both of them. But with them working hard and working together in this, not giving up with their love, I think they both would manage this. This way neither of them would be more important and both would be equally important cause they did something big. I know this is more of a fanfic type of thinking but I just always love this idea and I think this would give a bigger meaning to both of their characters. It would be a thing of once the thing was broken but they managed to heal it. And that would be a huge thing.
To put the ship part aside one of the best thing is their whole friendship and how their relationship grows. They go from hating each other completely to then Katara wanting to help him with his scar even if hes her enemy still. She saw the pain and was the first one to try to trust him and help him cause she in a way knows how he feels. Later on they have a complete fallout and of course broken trust but when Zuko joins them, he spends whole time trying to make things right especially with her. With others as well of course but especially with her. What she feels its important to him, not only for ship alone but only for friendship. He cares what she thinks about him. He knows that he messed up badly. And he literally stays outside her tent waiting for her so he could talk to her. Anyone can say what they want about this but I just know he wouldnt do this for anyone else. Especially after he just joined them. He still wouldnt. What Katara thought about him at this moment was the most important to him and he shows it. He wanted her to forgive him more than anything and I dont think he would ever be trully okay if she wouldnt forgive him. Of course she does on the end she does, cause she sees hes really sorry about everything. And that in my opinion makes their friendship even stronger. Which is an important part for the future. They wouldnt just go from enemies to lovers, they would go from enemies to friends to becoming best friends and have a deep friendship to on the end becoming lovers and nothing would be able to seperate them.
For me there was always this different feeling when it comes to both Katara/Aang ship and Katara/Zuko ship. Yeah sure Katara and Aang are canon and together on the end, but through the entire show and the way their relationship goes it gave me more of a feeling of oh hes a hero so he deserves to get the girl ( even tho he could have get Toph cause they made more sense to me but maybe thats just how I see it or whatever ). Which Im not saying he doesnt deserve it cause he did go through hell and back and he deserves happiness and love, but I just hate the idea so much cause he doesnt have to get one right away. He could have get one later as well or one where the relationship felt more natural. Cause if we think about it Katara didnt know what she wants anyway either. So them ending up together on the end felt so rushed, this is why it gave off oh hes a hero so he has to get the main girl vibes.
For when it comes to Zuko and Katara, I would legit feel the same way if their relationship would be this rushed for the end. But heres the thing, it wasnt. Them ending up together, even though I do think them being together wouldnt be so easy and right away for certain reasons, would still feel more natural cause of the way their relationship is through the entire show. They grow more together as a team and friendship through everything which gives of the natural feeling of them ending up together. This is for me what Aang and Katara lack off, with them it feels like oh a boy who had a crush on a girl got the girl cause the girl just gave in.
These were mostly the main reasons, explanations on why I love the ship. But of course I have to mention Zuko legit taking the lightning for her cause that will forever stay beyond ICONIC. The I would die for her trope, gets me melting. Hes the type of man that would burn the world if anyone tries to hurt her and I may as well faint at that omg. Switching on Katara, I do believe shes the same way for Zuko. She didnt even think twice on saving her. And her reaction for when she saved him always brings tears in my eyes cause its so precious. The happy smile when he wakes up, always gets into my heart.
I will die when we get this in live action istg. My shipping heart will be beating like crazy. I cant wait but at the same time I just know I will be completely destroyed.
So yeah people may say what they want and they can believe what they want tbh but it is not just Zuko being good looking or self insert thing for when it comes to Zutara. Theres so many things on why anyone would ship them and theres a reason why they are one of the most popular ships of all times.
Hands down to those shippers who ship Aang and Katara ( they can and its valid ) and they do not hate on Zutara at all, are respectful and nice and lovely and of course same goes for the Zutara shippers. Cause these shippers are how things should be. On the end of the day its just a ship to have fun for and its not real either, so people hating anyone or anything at this point, when you can ignore and block and everything, is just unbelivable to me ngl.
One of the things I also dislike ngl is the creators being beyond unprofessional about their own thing that they created. I get not agreeing with something but its fandom and people will ship their own ship in anything really, even if you make a canon. I used to not think anything about the creators but now I do dislike them with everything I found out about them. On the end of the day this all just makes it worse and makes the hate bigger. Not to mention makes people like me not wanting to get into their thing ( didnt even watch all of the episodes of old ATLA, only live action and am not that interested into the new movie personally, only mostly Zutara ). And the main reason for this is how the creators act.
