started reading a new webtoon and I think I am overthinking the lore lol.

like it's set in a world where everyone is born with a mark that indicates whether you're a protagonist, antagonist etc. and I was only ONE chapter in when my brain already started going "mh but what about anti-heroes or redemption arcs? oh and what about corruption arcs? sure they're rare but they exist etc etc"

I'm caught up with it now and the system seems a bit more simplistic than I expected it to be at first haha. even in the introduction it said something about protagonists having to do good things only. which, you know, kinda rules out the possiblitiy of anti-heroes. So idk.

It also feels a bit weird. I mean even super heroic and nice protagonists can make some questionable choices at times. or just... mistakes

then I started thinking about redemption arcs. I mean how would they work? does the mark change? it's a birthmark of sorts so would that even work? but it's basically a magical birthmark (it even includes some strings of fate stuff) so I feel like being able to change isn't impossible.

then I had the theory that redemption arcs are possible... but only for side characters. they can be on the villains side first and then change sides or vice versa without it going against their role. kinda feel like that's what someone like zuko would fall under (since he's not the main antagonist, that would be ozai, right? feel like he would have the side character mark).

okay. but not all redemption arcs are side characters. sometimes it's the main antagonist. sure those can be a bit wonky and badly executed a lot of the time but they exist. so do those just not exist in this universe? am I overthinking? (yes) I mean a redemption arc is kinda what oryn is attempting with zef. since he's trying to make enemies to lovers happen (though I guess a corruption arc would also work there but eh ykyk either way)

It is a romance webtoon, so I'm probably not supposed to read this much into it anyway. BUT I CAN'T HELP IT

I will say that reading it was kinda addictive. I read the whole thing in one go (it's not super long but still). It also just rly matches my humor... I tend to like the more rom-commy webtoons (not so shoujo love story is one of my all time faves, so)

then he had a crush on ranpo and confessed to him by gifting him some poo. ranpo chose nikolai instead

now he has a crush on fyodor. this can only end badly. Why am I becoming Angie 2.0

two of my ocs got together, broke up and got back together within the span of like 2 hours. what the hell. now they're married

something about a challenge to eat poo every day

everyone wants to die (ty dazai)

idk why but everyone is deadly afraid of a hedgehog

my oc became friends with ranpo by name-dropping your mom

dazai pulled on a push door

talking about the inevitable death of us all makes you fyodor's friend

ranpo ran out of the shower because there was a spider

chuuya told my lookalike that he'd like to see him dying (they're best friends)

For anyone who hasn't read the ask the developer for LTD yet... they confirmed that babies inherit facepaint. It's unclear how messy that can get but I guess we'll have to see

edit: although looking at the picture it seems like it only inherits the facepaint of one parent. I don't think they can get mixed

idk, just in general, chapter 16 had such a nice color palette. and especially after rereading the whole webtoon earlier this week, I also noticed just how much the art improved over the years.

I mean that's to be expected. And I've seen it with plenty of other webtoons (and manga too for that matter) but seeing the art progress in real time is a fun part of following a webtoon for such a long time

Neil being a demisexual and how obvious it is by how he uses simple terms when meeting people like just saying their hair and eye color. He doesn't even bother describing people he doesn't find important. Meanwhile the difference between meeting Andrew for the first time vs him having fallen in love with him has Neil waxing poetry about Andrew and it's so funny. Miser i don't swing was down bad by the second book.

First time meeting Andrew: "Andrew Minyard didn't look like much in person, blonde and five feet even."

After falling in love with Andrew: "Andrew looked as he always had, and Neil knew his face as well as he knew every iteration of his own. Despite that, something seemed different. Maybe it was the sunlight streaming through the window, making Andrew’s pale hair shine brighter and his hazel eyes seem almost gold. Whatever it was, it was disorienting. It's always interesting and kinda sad to me how much of a negative bias for isekai I have these days. I don't even remember when the shift happened.

As a child I watched and loved quite a few of them. I didn't know the term isekai yet but I remember really liking the concept of being thrown into another world. Fushigi Yuugi? Inuyasha? fucking Digimon???

What happened T_T
