Even tho nobody asked, here's some more info on my Zenos Lives au:

-so what happens is, after Zenos offs himself, someone's gotta take care of his body

-que a bunch of talking heads arguing and debating on who gets to do what with it (mostly between the Domans and the Ala Mhigans)

-cut to Varro (the other/secondary wol in this scenario) having eead through as many of Aulus mal Asina's research records as he could find, and now bored out of his mind (and also way to damn curious for his own good)

-as the Scions' only (official) practicing practical doctor, he takes it upon himself to do Zenos's autopsy himself, arguing that anyone else could very easily do away with the body in the midst of the respective city-states recovery efforts

-hours later, he's practically shoulder deep in Zenos's shattered rib cage, having finished taking photos, notes, samples and removing bone fragments from his heart and lungs (seriously, he fell from HOW HIGH and DIDNT die?!)

-he's in the middle of removing and weighing Zenos's heart when it starts beating

-little weird, but maybe it's just a particularly strong muscle spasm or something, right?

-nope

-it keeps beating. slow and steady.

-panik

-his lungs begin inflating and deflating with air

-double panik

-Varro is in the middle of stitching his heart back into his chest cavity as Zenos takes his first breath and....

That's it. For now, at least :)

I have a Zenos Lives au living rent free in my head set in the post-stormblood patches where instead of Elidibus taking over his body, Zenos wakes up mid autopsy and Varro (my kinda-sorta wol) has to scramble to stitch his ass back up before he starts getting feeling back lmao

@wibbley-wobble So in XIV lore there was a queen named Gunhilder who ruled a country that was conquered by the big bad guy nation, galemald, and she had a royal guard called “gunhilder’s blades” who fought with swords that had triggers on them and were used for channeling magic, and these were called gunblades after the royal guard, When garlemald conquered bozja they copied the design of their swords but garleans can’t use magic so to adopt their fighting style they switched to a mechanical design that used black powder. Later on firearms were developed off of this concept and since they were “gunblades without the blade” people started calling them guns.

Seeing this going around again for the umpteenth time I’d like to reiterate that I know about the real world gunhilder and about allagan siege weapons. To me the funny part is that in eorzea, gunblades were invented before muskets

Given how many weird things in FFXIV are based on real world crazyness, I imagine the Gunhildr thing was intentional. The lore team are big nerds and do that all the time.

Except for cellphones being thousands of years old technology that nobody uses anymore. I think they did that one on their own.

I think it's because the lion furries are kinda the most normal thing going on here. Like, most of the time a character's race won't ever be mentioned by other characters unless it's relevant, and it's very rarely relevant. The mysterious hypercapitalist that actually isn't that evil and funds a lot of important stuff is a lawn gnome and everyone respects him, at least to his face. The Aztec king has three kids, of which two are different species from him (and each other) and the only one anybody says anything about is the trueborn because the king was supposedly sterile. All three kids have equal claim to the throne and no one ever questions that. There are multiple times that literal aliens from outer space come down and everybody is just like Oh hi, nice to meet you.

The Blessing of Light is something that is intentionally left pretty vague by the story, probably as another way to let the player fill in the gaps with whatever they want, and while sometimes this manifests in the story treating the blessing like a bodysuit of kevlar, I think the much more interesting interpretation is to go full whump with it and establish that the only rule is that the warrior of light cannot die. Aside from the subplot in post-ARR/HW being more interesting with the real threat of death now upon them, it just adds so much sauce. We can magick away the possibility of their head getting chopped off with the superhuman reflexes Hydaelyn hath granted, and so it is very delicious to imagine someone who, rather than being unable to be meaningfully injured, is instead able to just keep going despite catastrophic bodily harm. The warrior of light just keeps fucking going, no matter how much they may wish they were dead. More blood than humanly possible spilling out onto the ground, face pale, hands shaking, still moving with eerie grace and agility, screaming with pain every time they bring another desperate strike down? Thats the good shit.

I recall the devs saying that party wipes in a dungeon are just the WoL having Echo visions on what Not to fucking do, implying that they hallucinate their death repeatedly before triumphing.

Which is equally, "That's rough buddy."

Been 3, almost 4 days since saying I wanted to level tank again and all I've done in that time is log in once, figure out my general rotation for warrior against mobs, and then got so anxious trying to get myself to que for tank that i closed the game and havent touched it since 🙃
