emergence conditions

an olfactory, non site work using raw fragrance materials: Benzoin Resinoid, Clary Sage, Jasmine Absolute, Olibanum Resinoid, Sandalwood, Geosmin, Orris Butter

made for my site and installation art class, where i learned i don’t particularly care to make site specific work. i’ve been thinking about extraction, displacement, material histories, and the concept of “here and now”, and i wanted to take a chemical/physiological approach to a non site, rather than a spatial or strictly visual one.

this is a perfume i made for the final project for my artist multiples class. i’m interested in ephemeral materials, dislocation/dissociation from body or source, entropy, spaces/fields, conditions and stability. this one was tough because i wanted to step away from the language of commercial perfumery, and i think i could have played with the scientific or alchemical language better. the materials: violet, orris butter, and geosmin; were chosen for their particularly interesting chemical qualities, and respective histories within the artist multiples, and fragrance industries.
