Hey all! I’d just like to wish you all a very ( late ) Merry Christmas and well-wishes for the new year! I’ve been busy with the holiday celebration, so I haven’t been able to post as I’d like, but I plan on doing some shorter replies tomorrow. <3

I’m also tempted to take on a new muse around the New Year, but I’m unsure if I want to make this blog multi muse or simply create a new blog. We’ll see!

   “Fair enough.” Beca replied as Chloe suggested she´d pay for the cab home. Of course someone would have to go and get her car the next morning then, but she´d make Chloe do that as well, for now they had to prepare for what was to come their way with Fat Amy and her poetry slam. Honestly, Beca was still not quite sure how they had let themselves get dragged into this, but then again this was probably what friends were for and at least she wouldn’t´ have to suffer through this alone, the would all end up being traumatized together.

   When Chloe began talking to the radio Beca raised an eyebrow and quickly focused back on the road. She only had weirdos for friends, she had long come to terms with that, but sometimes she was painfully reminded of it when most of the times she was able to just ignore it. She couldn´t help her lips curling into a smile though when she noticed just how startled Chloe was by the volume of her radio. Beca was someone who always listened to music loudly in the car, but that shouldn’t be news to Chloe.

   While the other woman went through the channels Beca pulled out of the parking lot and onto the street, praying that Chloe would pick something normal to listen to. Of course she didn´t. What did I even expect? Beca thought to herself as she glanced over to find her best friend dancing along weirdly to the song and singing along loudly. She shouldn´t be surprised anymore, really, (and she wouldn´t admit that part of her thought the other woman to be adorable,) and yet she sometimes wondered about Chloe´s sanity. Or her own for that matter.

   “I am not dancing with you, I`m driving.” Beca declared, though she couldn´t help but hum along to the song ever so often. “Unless you want me to drive us into a tree.” She added, raising an eyebrow. “At least we´d be able to avoid the poetry slam that way,”

        What will we do when we get old? [ “Of course you can!” ]  Will we walk down         the same road? [ “Just keep your hands on the wheel and shake your booty!” ]          Will you be there by my side?

                                    Standing strong as the waves roll over.

        Chloe said each sentence between the lyrics of the song; both times in rapid         succession so that she could speak, inhale sharply, and continue to sing without         running out of air. She couldn’t say for sure acapella training helped with such a         feat -- but exercise and singing certainly seemed to make a difference.

        All the while, without disrupting Beca too much, she tried to lean over and         encourage her to ‘shake her booty’ -- grasping her shoulders and rocking them         from side to side.

        “There we go! Wait, is that -- are you humming?” Chloe had been intending to         lunge into song but, picking up on her best friend’s humming, felt a broad         smile flood her face. “It’s a good song, right?”

        By now, Chloe was used to Beca’s abrupt and oftentimes cold persona. The         DJ had an amazing habit of closing people out, erecting walls and never         giving off the illusion that never she cared or was interested. Despite the         ginger acting as if though such a thing didn’t matter and push through it,         there were many nights she fretted if Beca even liked her. It took her a long         time to realize that was just part of her -- as it was part of Chloe to be as         outgoing and engaging.

        And, honestly, Beca was too cute when she got into something. She didn’t         see it often, but she loved it.

        “If the coffee shop is the really close one, at least let me finish the song before         you park!”

AFTERMATH; Continued from here!

        Chloe was a terrible drunk.

        It wasn’t that she was abusive, cruel or negative -- nor that she had a         habit of passing out or throwing up. Alcohol was one of the very few         vices that the Bella allowed herself; mostly because anything else         could screw up her ( already damaged ) lungs, vocal cords, or get her         arrested. Even then, she was generally quite sparing when she drank.         She did enough to get buzzed and in the mood for dancing. It often left         her liable for everyone else, but she didn’t really mind         She was like their mother half the time, anyway.

        But this was the victory of the Bellas in The Worlds -- how could she         not? Regardless of the other performances, her and her girls had come         out on top. Despite everyone doubting them, the banter, the cruel jokes         and jabs... they had won. And, for the most part, they didn’t gloat too         much. Das Sound Machine weren’t far behind them -- a fact they had         to be mindful of -- and just being in the presence of so many talented         acapella stars was enough to replace smugness with legitimate        admiration.

       Though it didn’t stop a ( already quite tipsy ) Chloe from not-so casually        sauntering up to Kommissar, a huge, idiotic smile upon her face as        she gestured to her cup.

       “Soooo. Someone here owes someone else a drink,” she teased. And,        while the ginger had the capacity to be malicious about it, her tone was        entirely free of it. “Pay up.” Her lips popped loudly upon the p, causing        her stupid smile to only increase.

        The poor woman looked awfully distressed as she pulled a map out from         the top of her book, quickly unfurling it before the man as she tried to         ignore her ( almost ) swear.

        “I’m trying to find my Russian Lit class. Any ideas?”

getting ready for nights out together, standing shoulder to shoulder as they brush their teeth or get their faces ready or style their hair, knocking elbows and hips as they try and hog more space

standing quietly together in the kitchen after long, exhausting days, leaning into each other for support, breathing in the smell of home, fingers carding through hair and stroking down spines, until they feel like they can relax and smile properly again

REGRET. It had the capacity to be its own animal. Maybe not the word itself but certainly the connotation. And regret was the type of animal that would always return if only you fed it once. Beca had, and since then, it had never quite disappeared from that void in her chest.

Walking out on the Bellas hadn’t been easy despite what everyone may have thought. She’d done it more than once, sure, but each time, she’d left a piece of herself there with them… No, that was a lie. It was more than a piece. It was at least two pieces. One for the girls who made music with their mouths, and one for the girl who made that music sound so much more beautiful to Beca’s ears. She couldn’t help but feel as though that girl deserved more than just a piece. She couldn’t help but deny her more than just a piece either.

LA had been no easy city to plant roots in. To latch on and find a niche had been an exhausting journey. Hell, to find an apartment had been an adventure, and to keep moving forward without looking back… well, the former had been a challenge. The latter had been impossible. Beca always found herself looking back. Back to impromptu musical numbers and synchronized dancing and red hair and REGRET. She wondered if she would ever stop looking back.

By now, it had become easier. She’d learned to live with it, let it guide her, pretend that wasn’t regret festering in her gut but something else. Chloe understood. Chloe forgave me. What a lie to tell yourself, what a cheap and pathetic out, something to whisper to yourself while you’re ignoring her calls and deleting her unread e-mails. Beca should be ashamed of herself. And she would be if she hadn’t been so good at numbing herself with heavy bass and earned compliments.

A compliment like today’s which had her heading down to the lobby out of the blue to handle her very first solo client in place of Ellis Shaw, the big shot of Crucial Records. It was a big deal, to Beca at least, and although she hadn’t been offered the details, she knew better than to worry. No matter what it was, whether the next J-Lo or a revamped California Raisins group, it was her chance to move up in the food chain, and she do it right.

And yet it only takes several steps beyond the receptionist’s desk to realize that the universe has played a very cruel trick on her, throat going dry and back going rigid. There is nothing funny about this, and yet it is happening. It must be happening because she hasn’t had this dream in months, and yet… “Chloe?” And sure enough, when the receptionist drops the documentation for the meeting in her hand, the name atop the header is the one she’ll never be able to forget.

What were the odds that the two would meet again? Chloe had picked them to be abysmally low; mostly because Beca had a not-so great habit of ignoring calls and deleting unopened emails. It didn’t stop the ginger from trying, and the first year after her absence she tried in vain over and over to get in contact. She left messages on her phone, sent emails, and even tried to get in contact with her dad for an address that might go through. But it was BECA -- if she didn’t want to be found, she never would. Barden was simply an unneeded distraction from her dream of being a music producer.

Chloe was an unneeded distraction.

“I’m here!” At first she didn’t notice who her producer even -- having just about thrown herself to her feet to smooth out the wrinkles in her blouse and appear as presentable as possible. How did a person even dress to meet a music producer? She had seen at least six people come through in jeans and button t-shirts; yet she also spotted the occasional suit and tie. Trying not to fret about her state of over or under dress, she turned her head..

And promptly froze.

“...Beca?”

Her eyes went wide.

There was no mistaking her. Some said a new location -- a passing of time -- changed a person; yet Chloe swore the DJ looked no different to when they last said goodbye. She was significantly cleaner, but there was no mistaking her tom-boy clothes and bulky head-gear.

It was like a torrent of emotion had washed over her. One part of Chloe could have screamed. It wanted to rush over to Beca -- to kiss her cheek, hold her hand and tell her just how much everyone had missed her since she left. How much she had missed her. She wanted to act as if though the events of the retreat never happened and resume having her as her best friend. But it was that angst that quickly replaced the joy with anger -- and it was a cold, brutal thing. She wanted to demand of her the reasons she had for leaving; why she didn’t call back or answer an email. She wanted to ask why the hell she shut them all out.

“Did Barden mean nothing to you, Beca? Was I -- were we NOTHING?”

Instead she gave a smile that was broad and strong; so typically Chloe as she hurried from reception and over to the smaller woman. It didn’t take her long to wrap an arm around her, a quick hug and a kiss planted to her cheek before she pulled away.

“I can’t believe this! It’s been -- wow, it’s been so long!” She tried to remain neutral, but the emotions seemed to make Chloe giddy more than anything else. Quickly smoothing ginger bangs away from her eyes, the Bella offered Beca the clipboard and flash-drive attachment.

“The guy I spoke too on the phone told me to bring these. They’re pictures of the kids -- their grades, addresses, singing range and all of that -- and the hard-drive with some of their recordings. I wasn’t sure if it was enough, so I have my laptop in the back of the hire car in case you need anything else.” Seeing as she didn’t need the introduction, she saw no reason to not just lunge into the point of her trip. Not to mention it avoided the pressing questions that sat at the back of her throat, and the fear of finality if Beca was to cut her off and make the entire process a business transaction.

“They’re really great. Plus if -- if you’re the one producing them, I know the tracks will be amazing.”
