Teaching Practice (Campus Knows Best)
In Indonesia, education school students MUST experience teaching practice before they graduate. This is the main requirement if they want to gain an S.Pd. (US: B.Ed.) degree. The credit is four points anyway. This program interns the students to schools having an MoU with the campus.
As a miniversity*) student I supposed to have this done on my junior year, my spring school program to Arizona State University through IELSP (Indonesia English Language Study Program) a year back made me postpone my internship. (Skipping one semester for the USA, I bet everybody wants this)
On the teaching practice application, students can choose to which school they want to have the internship. Can be a school nearby or schools in the different city. Campus knows best, this was what the committee said to all student days before they announce the fixed location. Campus and my house are located in the same city, Jombang so I decided on writing SMA Negeri 3 Jombang on my application form. Guess what! As I downloaded the .pdf from campus website I would do my internship in Mojokerto. SMA Negeri 1 Puri. I was totally blank and wanting to lobby the committee, begging them to switch my place with somebody else. What I found is a failure.
Time goes by so fast; here I am now, a halfway on my internship period, writing this while supervising a competency test at X-2 of SMAN 1 Puri Mojokerto. I never regret.
*)miniversity : I created this term to describe my beloved tinny university.
