Fic Summary: His quick hookup should have ended with a casual goodbye. But Shane Hollander turns out to be possibly the most dangerous thing Ilya has ever done, and there's something intoxicating about the way Shane melts underneath him.
He can't have anything Shane represents, and he isn't supposed to ask, "Can I stay?" but he does anyway.
Half of his team has creature-heritage of some kind, but Shane's could end his career. It doesn't matter that he's no more likely than anyone else to lose control and hurt someone. It doesn't matter that the law says he can't be fired for his heritage, or that he's not what anyone would think.
This thing with Ilya is dangerous for him in more ways than one, but Shane can't stop himself from pushing his luck every time Ilya offers him something he's not supposed to have.
Snippet: When Ilya turned and walked toward him, there was a moment where the fast flicker of his eyes suggested that he would refuse to back away, and Ilya's pulse jumped in anticipation.
The moment passed. Hollander let Ilya herd him backward, and he hit the wall with a gentle thump. His chin tucked down to his chest, and his eyelids lowered even as his lips parted on a heavy breath. Fascinated, Ilya watched Hollander's chest rise and fall.
"This is such a bad idea," Hollander said. His voice trembled softly, but he reached up to put his fingertips on Ilya's hips and pulled subtly to bring him in.
"What is?" Ilya asked, just to make him say it.
Hollander's eyes flicked to the door, and then up to Ilya's face. His lower lip pulled in like he might bite into it, and then relaxed back out. He swallowed hard and said hesitantly, "You'll tell me…? If I. Frighten you?"
A smile stretched wide across Ilya's face, and he huffed out a laugh. "You? Frighten me? …Hollander." He reached up to brush his knuckles down Hollander's serious face, and smiled even wider when Hollander reached up to capture his hand against his cheek.
Meeting Ilya's eyes squarely, Hollander insisted, "Promise."
Ilya cleared his throat and pulled his lips in to get his smile under control. Hollander's eyes narrowed and his hands tightened. Ilya sensed that Hollander was one misplaced word from reaching over to open the door and shoving Ilya into the hallway.
"I promise," he said with as much seriousness as he could muster. He stretched a finger out of Hollander's hold to tap his nose. ""You will tell me? If I frighten you?""
Hollander exhaled on an uncomfortable laugh. "Uh…yeah," he said. "I promise."
