“Same here.” Mason ordered three ice creams for them. One chocolate and two mango sorbet. He handed one over to Nolan and one over to Aaliyah then paid for all three.

“Thank you!” Nolan chirped and began enjoying his ice cream. “Can we go to the Disney store now? Want to go to the Disney store?” Nolan looked up at Aaliyah as he asked.

“Thank you very much,” she said with a small smile as she reached out to take the ice cream from Mason and trying it. “Hm, it’s actually pretty good.”

“I would love to go there! As long as your big brother is okay with it.” She said with a grin and reaching out to sort the little boy’s curls out and away from his forehead.

Devin laughed, moving back to sit on the couch as the movie started, “well never say never. Weirder things have definitely happened, so a zombie apocalypse and a purge-like situation aren’t that far removed from relaity. But you’re right, people are way more dangerous.”

“There was that one guy in Miami a few years ago who was attacked and some guy tried to eat his face, I was convinced that was the apocalypse at the time. But that was just a person with a mental illness. People scare me.”

“But what good is freedom when you’re starving to death?” she asked pointedly, pulling the DVD out of the stack and moving over to put it in the television. “I mean, you gotta think about how you’d be in danger just by going out of the house though. Yeah, the clothes would be awesome but you’re risking being killed, raped, or whatever. I’d be way too scared to risk it.”

“I suppose you’re right, then I think I’d probably off myself if that happened.” She said with a long sigh leaving her mouth. “But thankfully, none of that shit is ever going to happen. I am convinced that we’re more in danger by humans walking by us on the street these days.”

“That’s horrible. You’re right, they shouldn’t or they could at least have more patience.” he shook his head.

“I’m having mint chocolate chip but I should be asking you that. It’s my treat.”

“I know, good thing I haven’t seen nay around here, I’d probably get a little mad about it.”

“Uh, let’s go with... Mango Sorbet for me, I’ll step outside of my comfort zone today.”

“I’m definitely not prepared for the apocalypse either. I think that if I were to be faced with a life-or-death situation I’d just kill myself, save something else the trouble. There wouldn’t be anything to live for,” she said simply as she pushed herself up and fished the DVD out of a stack. “What would you do if everything was legal for a day? I don’t think I’d leave the house, I’d stay in and hide.”

“You know I thought of doing that but I’d rather stay and fight, then think of all the freedom you’d have after all the zombies had a pick axe or something in their head.” Aaliyah stopped and hummed briefly before shrugging her shoulders. “I’d probably rob all the name brand stores, I need more cute clothes.”

His expression harden as he squinted his eyes and looked at her from the comment about his twin. “So you’ve never heard of me but you’re aware of my twin?” he questioned not really being a fan of liars despite him being a huge one himself. He shook his head lightly reaching into his back pocket for a cigarette, “No. I don’t tell anyone about myself, sorry.”

Aaliyah tilted her head before staring at him in amusement. “I was just taking the piss, you know, trying to be funny.. I wasn’t aware that you actually had a twin.” She said with a shake of her head. “Not anyone, why is that?”

“I’ve seen those and I really don’t like them. They’re for dogs, not kids.” Mason muttered. 

Nolan looked over the flavors and pointed to chocolate right as soon as he spotted it. “That one!”

“They’re terrible. Some kids throw themselves down and the parents drag them on the leash. Some people should not be parents.” Aaliyah huffed. The female beamed at the little boy and bounced him slightly before looking back at Mason. “So chocolate for him, what about you?”

“Okay awesome, any preferences for where?”

“Honestly? No. I’m fine with anything we do.”

“So I’ve just finished this painting I’ve been working on for what feels like forever. Want to help me celebrate? I’m thinking pizza and coffee?”

“Those sound good right about now if I’m honest. Let’s go and do that!”

Aaliyah shrugged her shoulders slightly at his words, she hadn’t really heard of him. “I think I’ve walked by you once before. I’m good at remembering faces, unless your twin is here in Manhattan also.” She joked lightly. “But I also want to hear it from you, tell me about you.”

“The whole shopping thing isn’t really my scene, not even for tickets. It’s weird for me to be doing it so I need all the help I can get.”

“Yeah, I absolutely hate ramen now. I can’t even help but be disgusted at this point.” She admitted with a shake of her head. “Yeah, I have never seen it. But I think I’d be pretty scared if it were to happen. I’m more prepared tfor the apocalypse.”

“That’s my second favorite! My first is chocolate.” Nolan blurted out. When Nolan spotted the Haagen Dazs he let go of Mason’s hand and ran inside. He stood up on his tippy toes to try and see what flavors were there while he waited for Mason and Aaliyah to come in also. 

Mason quickly followed behind Nolan so he wouldn’t leave his sight. “Don’t run off like that.” he muttered when he finally caught up to him. “Sorry about that.” He apologized to Aaliyah for nearly leaving her behind.

Aaliyah caught up to them with a smile on her face, it was cute how excited Noah was for the ice cream. “Here,” she said and picked him up so he could see all of the flavors. “It’s okay, I never got my freedom when I was younger. My parents had one of those leashes. I disliked them so much.” She admitted. “What flavor do you two want?”

“I don’t know that,” she said simply, “but as I’ve been saying, let’s not put that to the test. So, right, we have food, we need to put something good on to watch. You got anything good?”

“The baby food in those little squeeze things are good though, just the fruit pouches though. The rest is gross.” She added. “I ate them once when they were all I could afford, those and ramen.” Aaliyah shrugged. “Is it weird that I want to watch The Purge?”

“It’s going to be more than fun. All of my dreams are going to come through.” she said, letting of an overly excited sigh. “I can’t even right now.”

“Okay, just tell me where to go to purchase the tickets and it’s a done deal. I’m terrible at this stuff, but you can probably tell.”

“Yeah” she exclaimed, then thought back. “I mean, I think so. I can’t think of anything else that we’d need.”

“Let’s go get those tickets, shall we?” Aaliyah asked with a large grin on her face. “This could be fun.”

“Good, because I’m your friend and not your minder and I wll not hesitate to let you choke to death,” she said with an innocent smile, pausing to eat before talking again. “I might even be considering putting your food in a blender to reduce the risk.”

“You know that you wouldn’t let me choke.” She said with a small laugh but shook her head at Devin. “No thank you! That sounds so gross..” Aaliyah said with a shudder.
