When faculty says the coolest things ever :)
Eye openers.
When I got the topic Seriously Strange, being the Harry Potter fan that I am, this is one story I reaaaally wanted to make :D
DO HAVE A LOOK!
OPEN EYES.
Seriously Strange, but not as serious :P
Here's my second story on the same topic.
Full screen full view please :)
5 STEEL KE DABBE.
For our next assignment, we were told to get photocopies of our frames and put them, one each, in 5 steel dabbas, AND, pick one other frame instead. Of the five new frames everyone now had, we made 2 new stories, one one the same topic, and one more :D
SERIOUSLY STRANGE.
Every month, still, in the papers is a story of this kind, of this helplessness, of this nauseation. Hundreds of women, asking for death until they're granted that, not with much regret, by the families they go into with coloured hands, and dreams that fade out as soon as the colour. Serious, but strange how we do nothing about it. NOTHING.
Please watch full screen, and in full view.
STORIES.
Our next assignment was story making, and making it in 5 frames.
We were all made to pick a chit with a phrase written on it. Using the phrase as the title, we had to make a story and also incorporate in those 5 frames a shadow frame from the first assignment. Each frame gets a maximum of 2 lines to complement.
The phrase I got was SERIOUSLY STRANGE. Do check it out :D
This was, by far, my favourite assignment. Sitting with the 5 frames and jumbling them around on the table, the looks unsuspecting passersby would give me as they heard me murmur random phrases like "maybe the monkeys could kidnap her" ; comig up with stories for the entire hostel till 2 in the night, laughing over the craziest ones till 3. :)
CHANGE WITH CONTEXT
In India, different ways of even keeping the broom, or the different places it is found in, change the meaning of that broom, change what it says.
Across the world, the broom has come to symbolize different things.
Decades ago in Africa, when slaves could not afford to get married like the rich did, they would place brooms on the floor. When the bride and groom held hands and jumped over this broom, they were declared to be married. And hence the saying, jumping over a broom. Now, the ritual has embedded itself in everyday African marriages, and the broom now synonymous with marriage.
Saint Martin de Porres, often referred to as the Saint of the Broom, was the first black saint of America. Often depicted with a broom for his consideration of all work and men to be sacred, he made the broom a symbol of racial equality.
In Hindu mythology, the broom is considered to be Lakshmi, goddess of prosperity. Cleaning the soul of evils like avarice, dishonesty, pride, it has come to be a symbol of purity. The broom for hindus, is sacred and touching foot is considered inauspicious.
Keeping a broom bristles up near the door is said to ward off evil spirits from the door.
In military settlements, wives of deported officers, are said to keep a broom bristles down out on the porch, a sign to other officers that she is open to company in bed tonight.
