Ope looked at him with disgrace. “Your the son of a hero, a brave woman. Be a good example for the….” she trailed off, and Ope made a ‘you know what I mean’ face.
“I’ve made an example my whole life, don’t I deserve a little bit of a break?” Aaron lifted his head to try and make his point clear.

Task I || The Story of Our Parents || Alice in Wonderland
The first time Aaron ever heard his mother’s story, it was an accident.
He had been walking along the river’s edge when he heard the White Rabbit muttering to himself. That, in and of itself, was not unusual. It was the things the rabbit was saying that were odd.
“The hero. The hero. It’s a week from her birthday. What do I do?”
“What hero?” Aaron asked. It made no sense in his six year old mind. The rabbit must be rambling on about some fiction book. Though Aaron had never seen the other read, that’s what made the most sense.
“Your mother, my dear boy.” The rabbit exclaimed when he heard the question. “Come along now, I’ll tell you on the way. I am off to by our land’s hero a most important gift.”
“Most important hero?” Aaron mumbled absent-mildly, following the rabbit.
“Why yes of course, your mother saved our very land.”
This confused Aaron as the person the rabbit was describing was no more than a child. There was no way that a child could have saved an entire land.
The White Rabbit chattered on about how Alice saved this place and went on about how late he would be if he didn’t get this present today. But that jut left the boy more confused than he started.
When Aaron got home he ran straight to his mom and asked about what the rabbit had been saying. “Mom, I talked with the White Rabbit today.”
“Oh?” Was the reply that came from the stovetop where the woman was cooking up a nice dinner.
“Yeah, he made up some story about how you were a really big hero!” Aaron said excitedly.
Alice turned to her son, the soup forgotten. She was in shock as she had been planning on saving this for a while. Despite being a child at the time, Alice felt as though it wasn’t a children’s story. “What did he say?”
“That you saved Wonderland when you were a little girl.” He giggled happily.
The blood drained from her face as her son said those words. “Sweetie, I need you to run along now because this bedtime story will take a little longer to prepare than usual. I’ll call you when supper’s ready.”
Aaron just smiled happily and did as told.
An hour or so later, just creeping into the dark, Alice yelled out for her son to come inside.
He ran back inside, ready for not only dinner, but also to hear his mother’s tale.
“Supper first, then the story.” She told her son, giving him a small pat on the head. He nodded excitedly as he rushed through dinner.
“Bed time!” Aaron yelled as he put the dishes in the sink. On any other day, he would delay bed time as long as possible, but today, with the story in store, it could not come fast enough.
“Yes, Aaron, it’s bed time.”
Alice tucked her son into bed before sitting down on a chair and getting out an old, tattered journal. “Okay, Aaron, I’m going to tell you the story.” And so she did, her son slowly falling asleep to the tale of Alice in Wonderland.
