she   could   absolutely   tell   he   liked   to   brag .   &   she   does ,   too ,   to  be   fair   -  so   in   an   almost   peacocking   fashion ,   she   goes   on   about   her   own  musical   abilities .   “   i’m   more   of   a   strings   type   of   gal ,  honestly   -   i   write   my   own   songs .   ”

that   draws   a   laugh   from   marceline ,   to   which   she   playfully   plunges   an   elbow   into   her   sister’s   arm .   perhaps   her   type   of   humor   really  does   run   in   the   family .

SUDDENLY   SHE’S   A   LOT   LESS   ANGRY ,   &   a   lot   more   filled   with   with   sorrow .   she   takes   a   moment   to   scrub   at   her   eyes   with   her   fists   before   any   tears   dare   to   fall ,   &   comes   back   with   the   only   fiery   way   she   knows   how   to   respond   to   emotion :   frustration .

“   YOU   NEVER   LET   ME   DOWN ,   STUPID !!!!   ”   elegant   as   ever ,   marceline .   she   hesitates ,   but   finds   a   way   to   gather   her   words .   they   come   out   a   lot   more   soft   &   broken  than   she’d   ever   allow   them   to   with   anyone   else .   “   i   feel   like ...   i’m   the   one   who   let   you   down .   ”
