I have an art question.

You use Autodesk Sketchbook, right?

I use it too, but my choice on canva size makes my drawings look small/can't zoom to look at details later 🥲

Yes, that’s a super common issue in Autodesk Sketchbook, so you’re not alone!! ^^

Use a larger canvas than you think you need. You can always scale down later, but you can’t add detail if the canvas is too small.

Good canvas size recommendations

These work well for zooming in and keeping details sharp:

For general drawing / illustrations

3000 × 4000 px (portrait)

4000 × 4000 px (square)

For very detailed art

5000–6000 px on the longest side

(e.g. 4000 × 6000 px)

Sketchbook handles big canvases pretty well, especially if you don’t use hundreds of layers.

DPI setting (important!)

Set 300 DPI

DPI doesn’t affect drawing performance much, but it does help if you ever export or print.

Extra tips to avoid “tiny drawings”

Zoom in while drawing – don’t worry about filling the whole canvas at first

Use Transform > Scale to resize sketches if they end up small

Start with a rough sketch layer, then detail on new layers while zoomed in

If you want one simple default:

👉 4000 × 6000 px at 300 DPI

It gives you plenty of room to zoom, detail, and crop later without losing quality ^^
