To get consistent readings, always check your tire’s pressure before driving when the tires are cold. If you must add air to hot tires, leave a pound or two less than usual and recheck pressure once tires are cold. When cold weather comes around, make sure to check your pressures on frigid mornings—air pressure can drop about 1 psi for every 10-degree drop in temperature. Combined with cold-stiffened rubber, this loss of pressure can sometimes cause tires to spring otherwise unexplained leaks.

A clicking noise from the front when turning and vibrations at highway speeds are two signs that one of the drive axles need replacing. Another sign is grease on the inside of the front wheels. The drive axles are connected to the transmission through CV joints covered by boots that contain lubricating grease. If a boot tears, the grease can leak out, and moisture and dirt can come in, damaging the CV joint and possibly the axle. In such cases, many shops recommend replacing the axles in addition to the boots and CV joints.

At times, drivers may have trouble getting the car out of Park and into gear. Problems with shifting your automatic transmission can come from a few different places, starting with the shift interlock feature. This is the part of an automatic transmission which requires you to step on the brake pedal to prevent unintentional shifting out of Park. If you are having trouble shifting the transmission, the interlock could be malfunctioning.
