The site is located in the heart of Bahcelievler, which was designed in early 1930’s. Over the years it turned out to be a heterogeneous place due to overpopulation.
Characteristics of Surrounding Buildings
The area is crowded with commercial buildings and places, such as offices, shops, cafes, restaurants and entertainment areas. Lack of communal and green spaces.
Problems of the Site and its Surrounding
Bahceliveler when it was first designed was suppose to be a self sustaining environment, but during the years its coherency decreased on account of the rapidly increasing population.
These ruptures have caused the life pattern to decrease sociologically and ideologically resulting in a fragile and weak district.
What was once dreamed to be an evergreen society has become
more commercial in nature.
Our aim is to balance the life and urban spaces in this district to guide the district towards the path that it was initially intended to where people of various genders, age groups and occupations can live together in harmony.
We wanted to Introduce the idea of a public garden which would help to break people out of their shells and be a part of a bigger community.
Pixilated Conceptual layers
Use of pixels to integrate the interior and the exterior spaces to interact with the surroundings of the site, in order to achieve a harmonious hybrid relationship.
We started the design by the idea of a 3D grid, which in its natural form is quite simple and flexible.
