Day 30 - Busy Monday
I spent this morning dragging, I blame the fact that I spent most of the weekend sick in bed. I started the morning off getting an early training session in with Remi, and making a few phone calls. Remi was not amused by me being on the phone and laptop. She literally closed my laptop on me. So we headed off as I drove around the Valley running errands. Surprisingly I was so busy today that the only picture I took was with Snapchat...
Day 29 - Pets Know
After spending most of the day in bed yesterday, I felt that the only way to get better was to go out and about. The only problem is that it is Sunday and there is nothing to do. I still feel horrible, so I took it easy and tried to catch up on some work. For the most part, Zelda kept me entertained for the day. I feel like pets always know when you don’t feel good. They’ll be extra good, nice, and give you a little more attention that usual.
Day 28 - Sick Day
I guess one of the problems with working from home is that when you get sick, you are still at work. I got up this morning feeling horrible, and didn’t make it out of bed the whole day. When it the sun went down, I was finally able to get myself to the store for my favorite soup to make at home.
Day 27 - Sunrise Jogging
With all this fishing I have been doing all week, I have been neglecting on getting myself into the gym. I know it’s a weak excuse, but I always seem to find some reason to not go to the gym or for a job. So this morning I woke up before the sun and decided to head to the pond I’d been fishing at to take a job around the track. The morning was nice and cool and perfect for a run, and I definitely enjoy it better than going to the gym to get on the treadmill.
Day 26 - Rainbow Trout
After spending all afternoon trying to catch a rainbow trout yesterday, I was determined more than ever to catch one today. I made it out to the pond early and surprisingly the same guys from yesterday were all there too. We all talked throughout the morning and became friends quickly. Slowly but surely we all finally caught ourselves our own little Rainbow Trout. It was a lot of fun, and now I want to go out and fish for them more.
Day 25 - Gone Fishing
Every year the Texas Parks and Wildlife release Rainbow Trout during the winter to small ponds, lakes, and rivers to encourage people to go fishing. I’m lucky enough that they release at least a 1,000 every year in Harlingen. I decided to wake up early today, run some errands, and go fishing. I go to the lake early and waiting on the truck to arrive with a few other people. Sadly not one of us caught anything all afternoon, but we’ll be back tomorrow to settle the score.
Day 24 - Daily Lives
I have always wanted to do a series of pictures of random people I meet on the streets. A sense of going into the daily lives and snapping a shot of that. Sadly the town I live in does not really have that many people walking around on the street. So the project has always been on hold. Today while out for a walk I saw this old man in a suit walking to a small hole in the wall barber shop. I wish I would of been able to stop him and ask for a picture, but for some reason I got shy and afraid to ask. I realized, I really need to work on approaching people about taking pictures. As I put my camera down, I saw that I had accidentally snapped this shot of the woman walking in front of me carrying a box. It was kind of funny to me that an accidental photo came out of my lack of asking a person to stop. That’s when I realized I just need to be faster with my camera and more adapt to street photography.
Day 23 - The Right Path
This month has been going by so fast lately. I blame getting older as a reason for feeling like everything flies by. Work has been slow with my photography, but my clothing brand I’m starting has finally all come together for launch. I’m excited for everything this year has to bring. While on my hike today I looked forward to the path and smiled, with pleasant optimism. I finally feel that I am heading down the right path.
Day 22 - Something Different
Over the years I have always made friends with as many people as I can, because to me that’s one of the best ways to learn and grow as a person. One of my friends I haven’t heard from for awhile randomly called me the other day. We started chatting it up and she let me know that she wants to start up an instagram account. She had a specific idea in mind and was hoping I could snap a few pictures of her. Her idea was a little off from what I usually do, so I thought it would be fun try and collaborate our styles together.
Day 21 - Late Night Fun
After all the activities with Remi throughout the day I decided to take it easy. I hardly ever drink, but for some reason I was craving a beer last night. So I decided to go out and have a drink. As I was walking back to my car I had to snap a shot of the fog mixed in with the lights. Afterwards I knew I needed some Whataburger to top off the night. It was definitely a fun drive home having almost zero visibility though.
Day 20 - Remi Turns Two
Well the title of this post is pretty self explanatory. My crazy springer spaniel, is turning two today. Its funny that I really do post a lot about her on Facebook and instagram. Mostly because I spend so much time with her, specially these past two years training her to be my hunting partner. We started the day with a nice walk, then brought her in so she could relax and hang out with me. I took a this photo of her looking out my window at the birds flying around.
Day 19 - New York Deli
Surprisingly a lot of my favorite places to eat in Harlingen are only open for lunch time. One of those spots is New York Deli, however once a week they stay open for dinner. Which is nice for me, since I usually don’t remember to go lunch till after 2pm on most days. The food was so good and it reminded me that I need to stop waiting so late in the day to go eat.
Day 18 - Lights All Year
If there is one thing I love about Christmas is that it usually brings cooler weather and all the christmas lights that go up everywhere. If it wasn’t so frowned upon, I’d keep a tree with lights up all year round. So today I was pleasantly surprised to see that the trees were still being lit at night in the downtown area. Hopefully they will keep it going and ignore those that say you can’t keep your lights up.
Day 17 - South Texas Wind
I spent most of today working on a few photos that I needed to get done editing for a client. When I decided that I just needed to get out the house, I grabbed my .22lr rifle and drove out to do some target practice. I guess being inside all day didn’t let me know that the wind gusts were insane. It definitely made it challenging to hit the target with the subsonic .22lr ammo I had on me.
Day 16 - Work Hard Pays Off
I’ve learned a lot in things over the years I have been alive. If there is one thing I learned growing up playing golf, it is that hard work pays off. So after putting in a nice long workout filled with cardio at the gym, I didn’t feel too guilty going to Whataburger after with some friends to have some food. While there I spent most of the time talking to John about my new camera and showing him all the features it has to offer. It was a tough decision switching from Nikon to Canon a few years ago, but it was a really hard decision when I decided to make the switch to FujiFilm.

Day 15 - Sunday Gunday
Awhile back my friends and I use to get together on Sundays and have ourselves a day shooting guns and eating pizza. Well today was a trip down memory lane as I met up with a few friends out at the range to shoot some guns. We didn’t get any pizza, but I did have a lot of fun and hope this tradition will make a come back for 2017.
Day 14 - How Many Steps
So far I’ve been happy with how much I’ve been going to the gym. I try to go three times a week, and on my off days do some hiking or walking around. After yesterdays nice little hike at the birding center, I started to wonder about how many steps I’m taking a day. That’s what brought me to drive out today and get my hands on a FitBit Charge 2. Hopefully this will motivate me to take a few extra steps and work a little harder.
