as an elder of tumblr (affectionate) and Certified Creative Person, how do you not get bogged down by AI infiltrating every medium and interrupting your own creative pursuits -- if you do at all? how do you not get tempted to see if you could make something "better" with a dash of AI? how do you find your voice/style and stick to that authentic truth rather than give up because someone would put in a prompt somewhere and make it better? yours sincerely, a fellow elder of tumblr

Oh lord, am I an elder of tumblr? I'm not even 30 yet 😂

Well, first of all I don't really know what kind of artist is "tempted" by AI. Is it the kind that hates drawing? The kind whose art has never had anything to say in the first place? Is it the person who has always seen art as a product and whose only goal is to make money from it somehow? I'm not saying you can't have been curious before - at the very very early stages of AI a bunch of artists would collectively have fun with filters and "turn your OC into a renaissance style portrait" generators. But if this is something that keeps you awake at night like the candy bar on your counter that you're saving for work tomorrow, then that's a little wild, I'll admit.

Anyway, I've always drawn because I enjoy it as an exercise. I enjoy challenging myself and having absolute control over every little detail of a scene - I enjoy the eternal pursuit for perfection that I will never reach (not an aesthetic smooth & polished type of perfection - but rather a "one-to-one translation from brain to paper" kind of perfection) I enjoy putting things down and having people react to it in all kinds of ways - good, bad, neutral, flabbergasted, and I enjoy reflecting on how those reactions make me feel, in turn. I will never ever feel this kind of connection with something that I spawned out of a virtual prompt in 10 minutes. I would take no pride in it and whether people loved it or tore it apart, it would be all the same to me. What's the point in that?

Similarly, I don't feel interrupted by AI because what leads me to pursue art in the first place is not the absence of theft, copying, disrespect or of alternative tech. Those things have always existed in some form or another. I draw because I like it. I draw because I have functioning hands and eyes. I cannot overstate how you could not pry that away from me and leave me alive.

Just saw yr **bee-YOO-tiful** Astarion and bloodweave art and wondered if you have written a fic around that headcanon of Cazador having cut off Astarion's hair? If not. . .would you like one? That's a plot bunny I probably cannot resist.

Hey, I haven’t gotten around to writing it yet, no. I’ve been thinking about it, but I’m currently in my “tell it with drawings” era :D I’ll probably write it down eventually, but please, if you feel inspired, go ahead and write it! Just let me know, because I’d LOVE to read it. If you want to tag me, I'm Abidolly on AO3 as well.

Even if I decide to write it later, two fics following the same idea are never the same. So feel free!

Sooo, the agenda continues: Astarion loves playing with Gale’s hair. It feels peaceful… he doesn’t really know why.

I’m spreading my agenda of 'Cazador cutting Astarion's hair' with hair with yet another sketch (evil laughter in the background). Despite a few contradictions, I’m sticking to my hc that Cazador, in a fit of rage, jealousy, or just on a whim, once cut Astarion’s long elven locks. And since then, Astarion’s hair has been kept short. Maybe as a punishment, maybe because it never grew back properly.

My hc continues that once Astarion falls in love with Gale (because I’m a Bloodweave truther), he’d love to brush and play with Gale’s hair. He’d probably even weave it into little elven braids without really knowing why (because, as we know, he doesn’t remember much from his life before).

Have you ever thought about why Astarion has short hair? Not that it doesn’t suit him, but it’s quite different from the hairstyles of other elves.

What if he once had long hair and Cazador cut it on a whim? Imagine Astarion had never seen himself with short hair. I imagine one of the other spawn helped him style it afterward, but Astarion would have lost his long locks, which were a big part of his elven identity… and because he is a vampire, they would never grow back.

Bloodweave WIP, establishing color palettes for the pale elf and so on. Should Astarion be taller than Gale? I don't really have HC about that, idk.
