if you can’t handle the way ryland grace, a fictional character, is being portrayed in fictional smutty fanfictions, then maybe you shouldn’t be reading any fanfictions to begin with — let alone be here in tumblr where everyone will write what they like.

It’s not a matter of “mischaracterization” but a matter of having fun and having freedom of what you write. because some people here write for themselves, some write for their friends, some write just for the love of the game. it’s fiction. you’re crashing out over a fictional character.

I kept forgetting my nighttime antidepressant so I set an alarm where the sound was a recording of me saying "HEY. TAKE YOUR FUCKING PILL" because I thought it would be funny. It was funny about three times, and then it started making me mad and I'd dismiss it right away to make it stop. So I handed my phone to my partner, who made another recording sweetly saying "Okay Shira, it's time to take your medication" and now I don't get mad anymore and I take my pill. The "compassion over punishment" camp has gotta get something wrong one of these days

final mental illness musing of the night but as you all know, i’ve suffered from an extremely severe case of depression since i was a toddler. and one of the most infuriating things about growing up this way was how many adults seem to just not understand that children can be depressed. sure, you may associate depression with teen years, but there are plenty of kids 12 and under who are deeply, deeply depressed and it’s just completely overlooked. When I talk about how early my suicidal behaviors started, people go ‘wow! i had no idea that it could start so young?’ but i have several friends who were also depressed as kids and i don’t think it’s that uncommon. i mean, bullying is frequent in children’s lives and yet you don’t think an 8 year old can get suicidal? It all goes back to people not seeing children as people, of course. Considering them not capable of complex emotions. I just feel for all the kids who go untreated because their parents haven’t stopped to think if theres a reason why their kid spends all their time in their room.

This exactly, looking back I’ve been showing clear signs of depression from when I was around 11/12, maybe earlier too. Kids are people too and should be treated as such. It’s so frustrating watching young people be dismissed because they’re not adults yet.

yeah, my suicidal thoughts didnt start until 5th grade and i didnt act on them until 6th (my first attempt) but i remember getting in trouble and not being able to explain how i would get terrible terrrible self loathing even if i got yelled at for the most minor things
