FUCK A GRAMMY
The Weeknd | Call Out My Name
I want you to stay even though you donât want me.
With After Hours I got to actually sit back and listen to what I was making. Starboy was an extension of Beauty Behind The Madness and I jumped in right away and it was more about individual songs and in the midst of that I didnât really care about making an actual body of work. But what I do best are albums. Iâm thankful for the success of Starboy, but I needed to get back to my roots of story telling with After Hours. â THE WEEKND for KING KONG GARĂON
My collaborators on the album are the usual suspects. Started writing the sonic concept with Daheala then I brought Illangelo on board and he took it to another level. Heâs a magician. I got to collaborate with Max Martin who Iâve become very close with and he understands that I want to continuously shift pop music. Metro Boomin plays a large role on the entire album as well. Oneohtrix Point Never is sprinkled throughout along with some Kevin Parker vibes. â THE WEEKND for KING KONG GARĂON
âI wrote the âAfter Hoursâ short and âIn Your Eyesâ after I found out I was scheduled to perform on Jimmy Kimmel,â says Tesfaye. â[I] thought it would be fun to confuse the narrative a bit with the reality of my album promo run alongside the story we were creating in my visuals.â â THE WEEKND for GQ MAGAZINE

THE WEEKND for VARIETY
People spend their entire lives running from demons â not many want to go back. I didnât want to, it was like, âThis is who I am.â Sometimes you try to run away from who you are, and you always get back to that place. And by the time you get to the end of this album you realize Iâm not that person. I was, but now Iâm growing and older and wiser and Iâm gonna have children some time, and Iâm going to tell them that âYou donât have to be that person.â I really wanted you to feel uncomfortable when you heard it, I really wanted to get inside the head of the person who hates himself and hates life and hates the person who made him that way. â THE WEEKND for VARIETY
On the surface it would seem my songs are about love, drugs and sex but I always tell a story in my albums and I am telling a very specific story in After Hours. â THE WEEKND for KING KONG GARĂON
But I wanted to go to Vegas and be this guy again, the âHeartlessâ guy, the drug monster, the person who hates God and is losing his fâing religion and hating what he looks like when he looks in the mirror so he keeps getting high, and hating to be sober because âI feel the most lonely when Iâm coming downâ â thatâs who this song is. â THE WEEKND for VARIETY
