Mini Nano day 4!
So I haven’t done this the other days, but I will start doing this every day from now on and the month out :)
Total words written: 3065 Words written today: 503 Words in novel: 20488 I will also do some first line written, last line written, but I’ll start that up tomorrow. Here’s to hoping tomorrow will be better, and to wishing everyone on this endeavour good luck!
I love this book. I’ve loved it since @brennayovanoff started writing it and I loved it as I was paging through it now. I’d love it even if I didn’t know Brenna.
But I do and so I can ask for an advanced review copy to give away on the blog. I’ve sketched in it and now LET’S HAVE A CONTEST. All you have to do to enter is reblog this post before 9 PM EST on 2/1, and Brenna will pick one of the reblogs (it’s also running on Twitter) to win. It’s open internationally, and the only thing that’ll disqualify you is if you enter more than once on Twitter/ once on Tumblr (that’s twice total if you have both social media accounts which I realize not everyone does and makes this inherently not fair but that’s life I’m afraid).
I’m so excited for you guys to love this novel, too.
We have a winner! The doodled-in ARC of PLACES NO ONE KNOWS goes to: @fourlittlebees!

I want you all to know that an Arab Muslim from Tunis proposed the Theory of Evolution near 600 years before Charles Darwin even took his first breath. Don’t let them erase you.
his name is Ibn Khaldun
Also, it was not the apple falling from a tree that made Issac Newton “discover” gravity. He was reading the books of Ibn Al Haytham, an Arab Muslim from Iraq, who pioneered the scientific method, discovered gravity and wrote about the laws governing the movement of bodies (now known as Newtons three laws of motion) some 600 years before Newton existed. Without him, modern science as we know it wouldn’t exist. Read on him. His achievements are far greater than what I’ve just mentioned here.
😲 omg ☝☝☝
oop there it is
this blog is pro black hermione
my fave greek history story to tell is that of agnodice. like she noticed that women were dying a lot during childbirth so she went to egypt to study medicine in alexandria and was really fucking good but b/c it was illegal for women to be doctors in athens she had to pretend to be a man. and then the other doctors noticed that she was 10x better than them and accused her of seducing and sleeping with the women patients. like they brought her to court for this. and she just looked at them and these charges and stripped in front of everyone like “yeah. im not fucking your wives” and then they got so mad that a woman was better at their jobs then them that they tried to execute her but all her patients came to court and were like “are you fucking serious? she is the reason you have living children and a wife.” so they were shamed into changing the law and that is how women were given the right to practice medicine in athens
Yeah, this isn’t some Greek myth story about a hero or demigod or something, Agnodice was a real person who actually did this.
Another amazing woman from history.
I don't have a problem with African Americans but HERMIONE IS NOT BLACK PEOPLE WHY DO I SEE THESE FAN ARTS OF HER BLACK ITS NOT HER JJUST NO
But why can’t she be black? People are allowed to head canon her as black if they want to. I’m personally all here for a black hermione. I think it’s awesome! Her being played by a white actress doesn’t mean shit to me.
EDIT: also, her being head canon as black by people isn’t effecting you at all so I’m not quite sure why you have such an issue with this
*sigh* why are people like this
1. The books aren’t specific about Hermione’s race.
2. African Americans/mixed raced girls are more known to have “bushy hair”
3. Hermione is called mudblood through the series, kind of like how mixed raced people are called “mulatto”.
4. There is ONE like that is found that may have mentioned her skin tone: “ “They were there, both of them, sitting outside Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlor — Ron looking incredibly freckly, Hermione very brown, both waving frantically at him.” - The Prisoner of Azkaban
5. Who’s to say she isn’t a person of color?
6. Why can’t women of color want to feel represented. It doesn’t change the story or the meaning behind her character. If you’re offended by “brownwashing” it means either a.) you feel threatened or b.) you think Hermione is less of a person or women or icon if her race is changed. Why should only POC project themselves onto white characters and not feel offended?
7. J.K. Rowling herself has liked two tweets by fans who made fan art or posted articles on this exact same possibility, so if she has no problem with it, then why should anyone else?
8. Marketing companies don’t like diversity in books. They will want authors to change the race or make the character colorless all together because they know books about white characters make more money because they are marketing to white people.
#PrayforBrazil
In light of all the recent tragedies the world has been facing, please take your time to also pray for Brazil, which is currently going through one of the biggest environmental disasters in its history.
For those of you who dont know, on November 5, two huge water dams between Mariana and Ouro Preto, in the state of Minas Gerais, broke. The dams were located in a very industrial region, thus the dam water is filled with manganese and iron dejects, and these are lethal to both animals and nature. With the breaking of the dams, a huge surge of mud has washed over these cities, as well as many others, destroying everything in its way. More than 2000 people have been affected, although the number is continuously growing. The nature that once used to grow there is completely covered, and many plants and animals will probably beocme extinct.
As of right now, the mud has already affected two states (MG and ES). However, that is not the biggest problem. The mud is close to reaching the Rio Doce. This river is the main water supplier of the region, if not the only. Once the mud reaches the river, it will disappear and there will no longer be water for those who depend on it. As many brazilians are saying, “A morte do Rio Doce”, or Rio Doce´s death. The consequences will most likely be deadly.
This is, of course, a very brief summary of what is happening. But please, #PrayforBrazil.

I don’t want to live any longer in this world of “the customer is always right.” This is a world that shows the aggressive, the bull-headed, the cruel that they have full license to behave like beasts to get what they want. Half the time, they’re even rewarded for it; “here, ma'am, so sorry for the trouble, please accept this gift card–no charge.”
I want to live in a world that punishes these childish adults as you punish a toddler throwing a tantrum. No candy for you, Jimmy; you’re going home to bed if you can’t mind yourself in public.
Throw a hissy fit because your cashier isn’t moving as fast as you’d like? Find yourself gently escorted from the store until you can show some basic compassion and patience.
Hurl a pen across the table at your signing agent? You’ve just forfeited your right to refinance your mortgage this week. Try again when your temper is managed.
Scream obscenities at the Taco Bell rep because you know it’ll earn you a free soft shell? Here’s your money back; please feel free to play again when you’ve realized fast food is not worth more than the price of human dignity.
I am so sick of accepting–and, in truth, rewarding–these callous behavior patterns in customer service industries. The fact is, the customer is not always right. The customer is often just testing to see what he can get away with. Stop pandering to spoiled children, and show your employees they have more value than their red polo, or how much abuse they can withstand in a 40-hour week.
We are here to provide a service and to make a living.
We are not your punching bags.
