In The Face of Another (1966), directed by Hiroshi Teshigahara and adapted from the novel by Kobo Abe, the art direction was overseen by architect Arata Isozaki. In several interior scenes, one can observe the extensive use of prehistoric haniwa clay figures as decorative elements, their presence evoking a sense of mask-like physiognomy. Even more striking is the fact that, in the consultation room of the psychiatric hospital where the doctorâportrayed by Mikijiro Hiraâworks, a sculpture titled Ear by the artist Tomio Miki is prominently displayed.
