Professor Ahmed Isah Haruna a university professor in Bauchi state. He said; Even in ASUU, this is the worst leadership I have seen in 25 years in the university. Both government and ASUU are not sincere on university education in Nigeria. I have not seen any intellectualism in the attitude of both government and ASUU. I will touch little things that doesn't make sense; why is ASUU on strike now? It is because of IPPIS and after losing out on that they shifted the goalpost to "revitalization of universities" which is very unrealistic. Why would a sensible person declare strike during coronavirus global confusion? Where is the much acclaimed knowledge? This strike was never voted for at individual branches as usual but truncated by the ASUU NEC. It never happened this way before. The IPPIS unveiled an unbelievable number of ghost workers in the university payroll whole the former gifmis payroll that ASUU preferred accommodated all those ghost workers. So the complain about IPPIS is baseless and unfounded. Why would a professor be allow to visit more than two universities in a month? How would he cover the contact hours and quality delivery to students if he has to visit three, four, five and etc universities? All for money. Who are then killing the university education from within? Why would this malpractice be allow simply because it is ASUU. Respect should be earn through honesty. What is revitalization? Who will source over N1 trillion naira and throw it to universities for unspecified projects and look the other way? This will never happen. How many universities judiciously utilized the money given by President Goodluck Jonathan for Needs Assessment Projects? Infact you will see better projects in State Universities than federal universities. Why is ASUU silent about this? Who actually benefits from major projects? University Management and Union officials as supervisors but not lecturers. TETFUND is doing good in their intervention projects in all universities, so why this revitalization again? Why is ASUU drifting away from sourcing welfare of its members and targeting revitalization? Only 46 law professors (22 SANs) were volunteer to depend their association in her case with Federal Government. So, what is common in this?!! I think ASUU should just reconsider and call off the strike. This current government is drowning. Emirates airlines has suspended her operations, Dubai of yesterday places ban on Nigerians, most major airlines are shutting operations and reducing daily flights, our external reserve reduced by over 300 million dollars last week, second Quater loan interest payments are due, total generated revenue still not sufficient to settle our bills, NNPC unable to remit funds to CBN, Naira losing value daily at forex, CBN continue to print new notes amidst rising inflation, Oga at the top says he is tired. Economy out of control amidst massive theft by those in power. Governors cannot pay salaries but spend state resources playing politics and settling stakeholders. Kidnappers, bandits and Boko haram on the rise, nationwide insecurity, fear and intimidation, while an average Nigerian is helpless, and hopeless. Yet there’s a President who may not know the degree of the problem or amount of insecurity around him, yet we have ministers who are busy stealing and grabbing whatever they can from their ministries, yet we have Director’s and perm secs who are too scared to tell the president the truth, yet we have Presidential aides who are comfortable that the president have no idea of what is happening around him, yet we have politicians hustling around seeking political favors and an electorate waiting to vote in symbols without questioning the character of the people behind those symbols. Unfortunately, the mass of our people have no idea about the rot we have found ourselves seven years into this government. Buhari and his change team have failed so badly. They lack the mental capacity to lead the nation. By December I doubt if there will still be any foreign airline operating in Nigeria, I doubt if our students can still catch up in school, I doubt if ordinary Nigerians can still feed and transport themselves to work, I wonder what the exchange rate will be.
