Hello everyone. The reason I didn't post this morning was because I wanted to write my review with more thought. If you don't remember, I will be reviewing The Darkest Minds by Alexander Bracken. I can't contain my excitement....I just loved this book so much, but first let's give a brief synopsis.
This book takes place in the future and describes a world where sickness is at large. All of a sudden, kids around the age of ten start dying all over the country. There are very few left, and on top of this, the government begins to discover children with powerful abilities. The government decides that these children are dangerous and need to be contained. They are all categorized by color, depending on their abilities. Greens are advanced in their intellect and Blues are capable to move items without touching them. These are the least dangerous out of all of the colors. These children are forced to work in camps in harsh conditions. The other colors include Yellows, who have an uncontrollable power over heat and electricity, Oranges, who have the ability to enter other people's minds, and Reds, who's power isn't thoroughly described in the book but is obviously beyond the power of the other colors. Some Yellows live in camps, but the others died along with most of the Oranges and Reds under the bloody hands of the government. Ruby, an Orange in disguise lives six years of her life pretending to be a Green in the harshest camp of them all until one day, she escapes along side a suspicious woman who works for an agency dedicated to save kids in camps. If Ruby learned one thing in the camps, it was to trust no one. She runs away from the woman and finds many things along her journey to realization. Who is behind these camps? Is it possible to find love along the way to finding out? I will share no more!
This book is full of mystery, romance, action, and wonder. The characters thrived under Bracken's pen, as did the plot. There were so many characters to fall in love with, it was ridiculous. There was also so much mystery. I can't count how many times I asked myself, "Are these the bad guys?" Many twists and turns along the ride and there are still two other books read!!! I really enjoyed this book. I will admit that I cried a bit at the ending. The ending man!!!!! I wish I could share my emotions but alas I shall not give it away. You must read it for yourself, trust me, you won't regret it. The book was simple and easy to read, and like I said, there were so many plot twists I couldn't see them coming. And because this was the first instalment, some of my negative aspects regarding the book dealt with plot lines left hanging, but I'm sure they will be resolved in the next instalments. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book. I must know! I really related with the main character as well as the other characters. I feel that that was a talent of Bracken's, she made every character relatable in some way. I strongly recommend this book for many reasons, so please go read it!! Now I must decide which book to review next. I'll announce on my next post. Which I promise will be up.
