Hey! This is my first work and I hope you enjoy it! English is not my first language, so if there’re any mistakes - and I guess there are some - just tell me and I’ll try to change it!
Slip of the tongue
‘… Well, I’m in the kitchen, if you need me. Love you-’
You abruptly stop on your way to the kitchen. If you had been in the middle of a footstep, your leg would have hovered above the ground.
Oh god. This should not have happened. I didn’t even know that I loved him and now that is what I have bluntly told him! Oh my, I can’t take it back now, can I?
Your eyes flicker to Sherlock. Silent noises are pounding in your ears. The water kettle suddenly sounds like a gunfight next to a construction area. You are trying to catch a sound: a weary sigh, a deep breath, a sudden movement – anything! But Sherlock makes no noise whatsoever. He stares in his cell phone, his naked toes don’t move a bit and Sherlocks eyes neither widen nor close – he is not reacting at all.
Maybe he didn’t hear it? Often he just leaves the world we know and strolls through his mind palace or mentally performs a chemistry experiment like chess player do – nobody knows what he is really doing in there. But what are the chances?
You notice you have held your breath the entire time and let it out slowly.
Just don’t raise any suspicion!
You casually walk back to the kitchen and try not to look at Sherlock. At the same time you’re searching him – trying as hard as you can to ‘deduce’ him, as he calls it. Once you pass him and he is behind your back, your eyes feel like they want to turn, trying to pop out of the back of your head. You listen closely to noises as you pour the hot water into a mug. It’s silent.
You sit down at the kitchen table and warm your hands at the china that gets warmer and warmer. A split second you rest your head on your hands, letting the hot steam of the tea coat your forehead.
‘He didn’t hear’, you decide.
