on collision.
a sleepless night renders the day incorporeal for his mind, with his thoughts floating off the sky like an aftermath of rain under the sun. it feels like an endless cycle, this life cluttered with remnants of rest — he is, after all, attending one of the best tertiary educations, and majoring in one of the most difficult subjects at that. back to the reality of decapitated sensing due to staying up for too long, he feels like his feet are not truly attached to the gravity, limbs feeling like gossamer spectres. but at least after this lecture, after this hour, he can return to the safety of his apartment, crashing for the day.
as he makes his way towards the auditorium, however, fate does not fail to trip him. it’s maybe his undone shoelace, it’s maybe his thoughtless clumsiness. all that he knows for sure is that he nearly falls, but he manages to balance himself before he lands face first onto the pavements. his papers, however, are not as fortunate. loose from his grip, they scatter, exploding in pieces. he scurries downward, trying to save himself from the embarrassment, but to no avail. he sighs as he starts collecting the assignments — fortunately already marked with notably good results, so the dirt doesn’t affect them. he’s in the midst of it when someone bends and helps with it, and when he looks up, an unfamiliar face. blushes slightly. “oh,” he starts, taking the papers from her hand. “thank you.”
