SPOILERS IN THE DESCIPTION AND SLIGHT GORE WARNING AT THE BOTTOM!
Penelope Cove is a girl who was orphaned young and has been close friends with Howard and Philip since they were children, with Howard calling her Penny and Philip calling her Nellie. She even wears a locket with a picture of all three of them. She would later grow up to want to be a scientist, mainly wanting to specialize in plants and animals. She also developed feelings for Howard. However, the relationship becomes strained when she is accepted to work under Dr. Morose, with Howard hurling hurtful words at her. She leaves broken-hearted, unaware of the nightmare that awaited her.
Howard finds Penelope in a shocking state; hair matted and cut, thin and sickly for experiments and her eyes.... missing for her head.
Penelope stays close to Howard and when they confront the Great One, Penelope's body twists and changes; her hair grows and changes in color, the skin of her back tears open with wings of blood forming around her. Penelope takes on the Great One herself, determined to make sure it never sees the light of day again. She falls into the ocean, seemingly dying.
After a year of passes, Penelope washes up on shore; alive and her body entirely healed(no scars and eyes restored), but amnesic. She "reunites" with Howard and Philip,(Angelique and Nessie too).
