Stop supporting reposters
When I usually ask someone who has reposted my work to take it down, everyone has always been cooperative which I’ve been incredibly grateful for.
But when I receive a rude response as I did from @xpurebloodedk (formerly known as @sliverrosek this morning), despite politely asking and explaining my intentions, my patience and sympathy dries very quickly.
So I’m naming and shaming.
Some people may think I’m being harsh, but I couldn’t care less at the moment.
This post is to remind people to stop sharing posts from such blogs that are actively stealing people’s work, reposting them, and taking credit.
When you reblog their posts, you are further spreading the work they have stolen from editors, and making it more difficult for the creator to stop the damaging cycle.
Tumblr made a ‘reblog’ button for a reason - please use it. It simply requires one click of a button.
Even if you’re not an editor, you can still play a key role to encourage good practice on Tumblr by:
Reaching out to these blogs that are reposting work, and telling them to stop. Understandably, there will be people that don’t understand the difference between reblogging and reposting, so having this conversation is really important.
Not supporting their posts which includes stolen content.
Flagging their blog/post with stolen content to the editor themselves.
I could honestly go on forever, but as as I’ve found this morning, some people will just not listen, and even spit in your face :)
To my new followers - apologies for such a moody post. I usually don’t post things like this, but when someone ruffles my feathers, I can’t help but vent.
