So everyone knows the "One tells only lies, the other only truths, you get one question" thing right?
Why does no one think to ask what's 2 + 2?
The one that lies can't say 4, right?
IT'S GLASS.
This is "Arras", by Mark Lewanski, and the medium is G L A S S.
Just incredible.
Don't get married; just dress like this to go grocery shopping
Anyone ever get the urge to post their work because they want validation and praise, but don't because being the center of attention for anything is just the worst possible outcome? Like not that you think you'll instantly be famous or anything. But that work is personal (whether original or fandom based).
Possibly showing tens or even hundreds a piece is so personal that you want to hide it away for yourself. But at the same time you want someone to tell you how good you did and how much they like your work. Not for your ego, but because you worked hard on it.
Scenes like this are important. They make the characters relatable and interesting. They help to fully flesh out the world and give tidbits of lore that, while not helping the story, are fun and cool to learn.
People who read your work and these scenes will better understand your world and characters. No one can be locked in 100% of the time. The characters need moments to breathe.
There's a reason why filler episodes can be some of the best in a show. It doesn't move the plot forward, but it shows your reader why you loved that world so much you had to tell them about it.
So keep those scenes in. They matter.
I should lock the fuck in *half an hour passes* I should lock the fuck in *half an hour passes* I should lock the fuck in *half an hour passes* I should-
I must now haunt you
Bold of you to assume this isn't exactly what I wanted
This weapon requires someone worthy to wield it. You are not worthy. But it's the only weapon within reach, and there are people who need saving.
"Please, I must save them. After we're done, you can teach me to be worthy of you, I swear it," you say to the axe, your desperation increasing with each distant scream.
The axe stays still, almost seeming to hesitate. You get ready to search for anything else you can use to fight when the axe starts to glow. It lifts from the pedestal, where it has lain for hundreds of years. It moves toward you, allowing you to grip the handle. It doesn't feel natural, but you like the weight in your hands.
"It's nice to finally be asked, rather than rudely grabbed. You've made a fine first step. Now let's go save your friends," the axe says in your mind, the voice sexless but calm and pleased.
Your veins burn with hope and adrenaline. Hoisting your new weapon, you run toward the fray. There would be time for talk later. Right now, there was business to attend to.
it's always so fascinating and heartbreaking when a character in a story is simultaneously idolized and abused. a chosen prophet destined for martyrdom. a child prodigy forced to grow up too fast. a powerful warrior raised as nothing but a weapon. there's just something so uniquely messed up about singing someone's praises whilst destroying them.

Revenge Dialogue
"I'm just giving back what you first gave me."
"You think I forgot? I was just waiting."
"I didn't ruin your life. You handed me the match."
"You took everything from me. Now I'll take what you value most."
"You want an apology? I want a confession."
"I didn’t come here to fight. I came to watch you fall."
"You broke me. I rebuilt myself stronger. And now I'm here to return the favor."
"Revenge is what keeps me going."
"Funny how you only remember the part where I hurt you. Not the part where you deserved it."
"You ruined my life. So now I'm here to take yours."
"I have been waiting, very patiently, for this one moment."
"You think this is revenge? No. This is justice."
"They told me to get over it, I needed to forgive you. But I think revenge is the better option."
"You taught me everything I needed to destroy you."
"I forgave you. But I never forgot. And forgetting was the only thing that could've saved you."
