Death of the Princess De Lamballe (1908) by Leon Maxime Faivre

Princess Marie Louise of Savoy, who was married to to Louis Alexandre de Bourbon-Penthièvre, Prince de Lamballe, was killed in the September massacres in 1792 during the French Revolution. Having become a great friend to Queen Marie Antoinette, she refused to denounce the King and Queen during her trial. Following this, she was thrown into the street where she was attacked. Rumours have stated that she was raped, mutilated and her head then stuck on a pike where it was paraded beneath Queen Marie Antoinette’s window.
