Does anyone else find it a little sad that Dean is the only Winchester to identify the “family business” as “saving people, hunting things,” where saving people is the first priority?  It wasn’t John’s priority.  He was on a vendetta against the “thing” that killed Mary and anything evil that got in his way got ganked.  Saving people was a happy by-product of his true aim: revenge. 

After Dean gives his now-famous line, Sam counters with “…I gotta find Jessica’s killer.  It’s the only thing I can think about.”  For Sam, saving people didn’t come first, like John, hunting was a means to an end, in the earliest seasons.

But for Dean, a character whose entire sense of self had been sublimated into a need to save and protect others, “saving people” came first.  His need to save everyone, especially in those earlier seasons, came directly from what he believed his father wanted to achieve as a hunter.  He believed that John’s goals were to save people, first and foremost.  And so, Dean believed if he just saved enough people, if he protected Sammy well enough, John would be proud of him.  And if Dean saved people, other children wouldn’t have to go through losing a parent to monsters and demons like he did.  Other families wouldn’t be torn apart at the hands of evil.

But Dean could never make John proud by saving people, because that’s not what John valued.  And there is no way to save everyone, so Dean could only ever fail in his goal of saving people.  Dean’s tragedy is that even his laudable traits are turned against him, increasing his self-loathing through guilt and blame for his failure to meet an impossible standard.  No wonder it’s such a crushing burden.

I really wasn’t supposed to spend three days on this.

I really like the theory that Naomi is actually one of the Fates; I picked Lachesis because she’s the one who measures the length of a soul’s life, and is said to choose a person’s destiny after a thread is measured. That’s why her lowered right hand is made of sewing, crocheting, and leatherworking tools. The gold threads she’s manipulating are the puppet-strings of heaven. The albatross head is a reference to the Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner, and the shadows on the human face are in the shape of a spade in reference to the Queen of Spades in French tarot. 

There’s an omega sign in her ribcage to indicate she’s sort of the last resort of heaven; the upside down cross is St. Peter’s Cross, to show her reluctance to claim true divinity. Her raised left hand is decked out in surgical tools that she uses as a physician of angels, in Castiel’s “recovery” in particular. Her wings are a shattered mirror as a reflection of Heaven’s poor condition and also her own enigmatic duplicity.

TL;DR: I just have a lot of Naomi feels okay

Crowley (the Supernatural kind, so my apologies to Good Omens fans) has never been an ordinary demon on the show:

We HAVE seen Crowley’s eyes flash red AND we’ve seen him smoke out. We’ve also seen demons other than Crowley appear and disappear like angels, mostly in earlier seasons.

Also Samael is an older name for Lucifer; they are the same being.

long before those facts you so diligently point out came to light. So, like everything on Tumblr, take it with a grain of salt.

I have heard that Samael is just another name for Lucifer and that's probs due to my own laziness with research that I didn't originally come across it. 

I do have to say, however, I'm interested re: the Naomi/Crowley conversation of Mesopotamia. 

So we'll see. Colorful Rejoinder OUT.

why is no one talking about the fact that Mesopotamia is usually used to refer to BC times but Crowley is supposed to be this Irish guy from like the 17th century or something (okay no I don’t remember when he was alive but it sure wasn’t BC)
