Until next week!
Maybe we should herald in the change of season with a change of scenery?
Think Pink Cape Grim Rump Roast
This mouth-watering Cape Grim Rump Roast was simply charred on the BBQ. No special effects necessary.
Beetroot Feta Squares
Ridiculously simple, yet the talk of the table.
Don’t roast your beets, why not boil them?
Thinly slice the beetroot and let them drain on a paper towel.
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees while you cut your puff pastry into squares. (Remeber to cut bigger squares as the pastry will shrink).
Place the beetroot slices in the middle and fold the pastry corners to frame your vegetable.
Put your squares into the oven until lightly toasted and then sprinkle with crumbed feta.
Spanish Onion & Nectarine Salad
If you want an unexpected bite from your side salad then put two unexpected flavours together. Chop Spanish onion and organic nectarines together and fold through leaves of parsley for a taste explosion that’ll compete with your mains.
The Caprese Salad Wheel
We were salivating just from the adorable presentation of this Caprese salad. Tasted incredible too with thickly sliced Aussie Montefiore Bocconcini and our red tomatoes.
Ribbon Zuccini Brushcetta
It’s time to brush up on your brushcetta skills and treat it like the winning entrée it is.
Toast thick slices of white sourdough and scape across a light coat of cream cheese. Roughly chop tomatoes and spanish onion together and sprinkle on the bread.
Now here’s the game changer – slice thin ribbons of zuccini and lightning flash cook them in a hot pan.
Garnish to impress.
The last meal of summer
As we give the last warm hug goodbye to summer and nervously anticipate the first cold snap of autumn, we can at least take refuge within the comforting rectangle of Aussie Farmers’ fruit and veg box.
Our cardboard potluck arrived exactly as you would expect; like off the back of a farmer’s Ute on his way to the showground food pavilion. Nothing else screams provincial! rustic! a la naturale! like potatoes lightly sprinkled with dirt and a cauliflower hidden inside so many leaves it’s like a never ending pass-the-parcel.
But the real stars of this week’s box were the colourful. The beetroots, nectarines, zucchinis and tomatoes caught our eye while the extra Cape Grim Rump Roast demanded our attention though sheer size. Â
Check out how we wrangled our first fruit & veg box and plated up something special for our friends (aka consenting test subjects). Â
Pull up a chair
Nice to meet you.
Pull up a chair, keep you elbows off the table and dig in like your life depends on it, there’s plenty to go around if you can chew fast enough.
Every week we will use an Aussie Farmer’s fruit & veg box (plus a few extras) to cook plates and plates of scrumptious possibilities.
We love the simplicity of the process. A box of goodies is delivered right to our doorstep so we can save our precious energy for chopping, dicing, simmering, searing and most importantly, devouring.
Everything on this blog is grown, cooked and eaten in Australia. Â
