#despite some of it's milquetoast aspects and allegories#it's one of the last games that honestly and genuinely gives you so much freedom#of killing off the powers that escalate the mess from the past#like there's different ways to kill each leader#there's even the whole thing of being That Asshole and killing Everyone. Literally.#then there's the whole thing with how sidequests work#sure they didn't TRULY change the environment much#but the fact that the quests didn't have a Good or Bad way to do it#you either helped someone or hurt someone#it's not cut and dry#and other aspects of the game that at least make you consider how archetypes like those in the game reflect (in a very small manner) irl ar#we all know that the legion is TERRIBLE; HORRIBLE#and yet that mentality is prevailant in so many ways realistically#of course when I say this this isn't disregarding that this game is still from a very white lens#but the aspects that are talked about have been talked about before#there's very very few games that give you that sense of Not Everything Is So Cut and Dry#and Yet Everything Is So Cut And Dry all at once#and it's also a game that was designed under such stressful and near abusive circumstances#AND STILL came out as a buggy terrible game that's MEMORABLE#there's so many games today that are just as buggy and sometimes worse#that are just a glance in our memories#FONV and a few others are games that were crafted with love but were under so much coporate and captialist pressure#and still came out to be a damned cult classic is nothing to sneeze at#like yea like I said: the game isn't great and it takes so much for it to run it's entirety properly#and if you're EXTREMELY LUCKY you can play the whole vanilla game without it crashing#IF you're lucky#like...there's so much to the way this game shaped people nearly 10+ years ago that games nowadays WISH they had the same significance#and I can go on and on about the good; the bad; the ugly; the horrifying; and the cringe#but honestly it's a game that you just have to play to understand#or watch a thorough playthrough

Regarding your last post. Can you go into further details on Nord's skin care?

Sure I can! Let's start with lotion, since I've been making a lot of that lately.

Solid lotion bars, the kind that last for over a year without any preservatives in them at all. Are made with oils and waxes that the nord people would have very easy access to.

A typical solid lotion bar is made with beeswax, a liquid carrier oil, and a solid oil or butter as they are usually called.

Beekeeping is common in skyrim. So the beeswax is easy to get. After that point melting it down and mixing it with pretty much any vegetable oil will do.

They end up looking like something like this when done

I do think this is something only wealthy nords would really bother using. But the recipe is easy enough that anyone could make them.

Soap is a bit easier to explain. Every culture has their own soap. For the nords it would be really easy to make soap using animal fat.

Scrubs like sugar or salt scrubs would be too expensive for them to make. But a version using oats instead would likly be readily available. Great for bathing and probably pretty common considering how common oats are in skyrim.

I'll end this by also pointing out that skyrim has an abundance of clay. And so clay face masks are probably also something they have.

Skyrim is a very cold climate. Not great for the skin. And so it's safe to assume that part of dealing with that climate means developing a good skin care routine. I happen to know someone whos skin gets so dry in the winter time his knuckles often start to crack and bleed. So I know how bad it can get. And the idea that nords would just kinda put up with that on a daily basis instead of working to prevent it is kinda silly to me.

Mud crab cakes

Ah, mud crabs. If you’ve ever been in a position where you’re walking along the riverside or the coast, minding your own business, and one of these ugly brutes comes snapping at you without warning, then this recipe is your retribution! These tasty appetisers are a Stros M'kai favourite, and will put to use the tasty inner remains of those pesky mud crabs. Revenge is a dish best served hot with sweet chili sauce!

You will need: 215g fresh crab meat 80g plain flour 75g panko breadcrumbs 1 egg 1 red chili, seeds removed and sliced thinly 3 spring onions, finely chopped Zest of one lime 1 tbsp lime juice 1 tbsp ginger paste or fresh grated ginger 1 clove garlic, crushed 2 tsp fish sauce 2 tsp oyster sauce 1 cup vegetable oil, for frying Sweet chili sauce, to serve

Method: Combine all the ingredients except the oil, egg and breadcrumbs in a food processor and whiz until ingredients are combined. The mixture should be moist but still hold together. If it is too wet, add more flour until it forms a paste.

Shape the mixture into circular patties, about 3" in diameter. In a bowl, crack and whisk the egg. Dip the crab cakes into the egg, then roll in the panko crumbs until thoroughly coated. Set aside on a plate.

In a deep pan or a wok, heat the oil until bubbles form on the bottom and it is very hot. If you are unsure about oil temperature, drop a few panko crumbs in. If they start sizzling immediately, the oil is ready. Put the crab cakes in slowly to prevent splattering, and deep fry for 2 minutes on either side or until a dark golden brown. Alternatively, you can use a deep fryer instead if you have one.

Remove from the pan and place on a plate lined with kitchen napkins to drain the oil. Leave to drain and cool for 10 minutes and serve with sweet chili sauce for dipping.
