Man, I wish I got to play a young Danny Brown, but considering I'm 21 and white my chances were always pretty slim. Seeing as it couldn't be me I'm glad this kid got the gig. If you haven't heard the song "Grown Up" by Danny Brown you should definitely give it a listen, it's got a cool Tribe sample (I'm pretty sure it's "Can I kick it?")
Since its release I've been consistently bumping Control System. Ab-Soul is my second favourite TDE/Black Hippy member and after hearing Illuminate featuring Kendrick I was pretty excited for this release to say the least. The whole album is tight, "Double Standards", "Terrorist Threats", "Illuminate", "Sopa", it's safe to say there's a plethora of good tracks. On first listening, this song was nothing special to me, a nice jazzy beat and that was about it. Last night my man hit me up and asked me if I'd heard it. I said of course I had, but to be honest I hadn't really listened, because after he explained this song was about Alori Joh and her relationship with Ab-Soul, I listened again and I heard it properly. This is one of he most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Ab-Soul absolutely kills it and it's hard not to get emotional when you listen to it.
Something truly awesome....
The Book of Soul - Ab-Soul
OK, as of right now I have 3217 Tumblr followers, I guarantee I’ll put out the Clarity EP (far better than my last tape) as soon as it is complete, if we get my last tape to 1000 dl’s. It’s at 647, I’m sure 353 of you can take the time to click this link for the free download...
Progressive Era are fucking dope. Not sure when Captial STEEZ' tape dropped but it's sick. A good mix of some famous beats with some Pro Era shit. A friend got me on to Joey BadA$$ through "Survival Tactics" which is a dope tune and Joey BadA$$ actually produces this tune. Progressive Era seem to be like a less pretentious, more talented Odd Future. I guess time will tell. Anyway, STEEZ' tape Amerikkkan Korruption is a must listen.
Dead Prez - Capital STEEZ
Man A$AP Rocky is raw as hell. I'm a huge fan of LongLiveA$AP, it's one of my favourite mixtapes to come out in a long time. At first I was a hater merely due to the fact that I thought his name was a blatant rip off of Aesop Rock. However, it's not and A$AP couldn't be more different from Aesop in every facet of his existence even if he tried.
I feel sorry for A$AP and all the up and comers nowadays. I think people forget that we're not living in the 90's anymore. I mean yeah a lot of the greats are still kicking around and still releasing music but who can honestly name an album (besides Undun, excuse the pun but the Roots are still getting it done) by a universally revered hip-hop great that they would consider to be an all time classic? Cause for mine I can't think of any. And that's not a criticism of the Wu or members of the Tribe or Nas, or Souls of Mischief/Hierogyphics, or Snoop, or Outkast or, Pharcyde or Jay Z or anyone out there who anyone considers to be a great. It's just a fact of life that times change. Fuck, Tupac, Biggie and Dilla are dead. I love all their music and I'm going to appreciate it but it's not going to stop me from listening to new artists and appreciating all the good shit that is coming out nowadays. For mine guys like Kendrick and the TDE crew, Blu, A$AP, Curren$y and the jet life crew, Big KRIT, Wiz Khalifa, Asher Roth, Progressive Era and Odd Future are ushering in a new era for hip-hop. Some of it's good, some of it's not so, but it's 2012 shit changes, give these guys a shot. No one will be the next *insert name of a great here* so don't expect them to be. Let A$AP Rocky be that pretty motherfucker and do his trill thing. Sometimes ballin' and being trill is pretty sweet.
Now that I've got that out of the way Clams Casino drop that bass...
A$AP Rocky - Bass
This song...I've been on Kendrick's nuts for months now and I'm glad that I am because without him I wouldn't have heard this and got into BJ. Pineapple Now-Laters and the Life of Love's Cupid have been dominating my ipod of late. A friend of mine described him as a cross between D'Angelo and Bilal which is a huge call in anyones books, but his body of work thus far seems to justify.
Anyway, on the topic of this song, I don't know what I can say, it's amazing, Kendrick's voice almost breaking provides the perfect introduction for BJ's vocals.
His Pain II - BJ The Chicago Kid ft Kendrick Lamar
I've had this album on repeat in my car for like 3 months now. Shit never gets old.
"Damn I wish that I could have bliss, Daily. Lately I try to speak my peace but words fail me. I'm dwellin in the halls of appallin sights of evil, I've got to sweat the devil plus i got to sweat my people."
Pac Div - The Mirror
I went on a downloading binge instead of doing my readings. I'm glad I did because I came across this gem. I think this mixtape dropped November/December of last year. Anyway it's hella dope.
Holy shit.
Yasiin Bey - N****s in Poorest

Some soulful shit. Ab-Soul is probably my second favourite from Black Hippy, behind Kendrick. Dude is working hard.
Soul Cry - Ab-Soul
If you don't like someones music don't fucking listen to it. Word.
Me and my man from inthenickofrhyme are heading up to Auckland thursday to check out Tyler and Odd Future. It's good to see they've arrived in the country. I'm kind of glad they're not playing big day out anymore, it means less restrictions and less fanboys. Concert should be dope.
