It’s true, I did a paper in University about it. The subject I focused on was video games and how they promote all three whereas most activities only promote one or two at best. Take Call of Duty for instance; autonomy is fulfilled by being able to choose your own layout of weapons, competence by doing well in the game, and relatedness by playing in a team.
