The fucking... Monster farm part of FFTA was such a Pokemon cash-in. The whole "catch and keep and raise these monsters so you can use their powers in battle" really sounds like they wanted some form of "monster collecting" in the game. The Morpher job was so mechanically specific to use it was like the only job that didn't carry over into the sequel.

FFTA came out in 02 or 03 so the Pokemon phenomenon was absolutely felt during its development.
