Fire Drake, Poison Drake, combos 1 & 2 A lot of folklore surrounds salamanders. From antiquity to the middle ages they are frequently regarded as immune to, living in, being born from, feeding on, or being able to extinguish fires. In the european renaissance, they were considered spirits or elementals of fire themselves. Accounts of fireproof cloth from China were said to be woven of "salamander hair" (they were actually made of asbestos. fun!!), and the Talmud suggested their blood too would grant an immunity to flames.
In reality, this probably stems from seeing salamanders run out of fires lit with the rotting logs they were sleeping in. But here, I'm taking the ideas literally, and running with them for my tabletop RPG setting.
Salamanders were also associated with poison, which is better founded: fire salamanders, the species I used as reference, do in fact excrete a toxin which can be dangerous to their predators (and any other vertebrate).
