Met my secondary school friends for dinner tonight at The Central in Clarke Quay, after over a decade. And nobody seemed to have age at all! I can totally recognize everyone's faces. Was a good night catching up and hearing what everyone has been up to, over the years. And laughing over our shared memories during our schooling years. Feeling pretty nostalgic tonight.
Wandered in Botanical Gardens this morning with R. and J., who stayed over last night and ended our morning walk with a plate of the famous nasi lemak at Adam Food Centre. Can't believe we waited over 40 mins for this. A good relaxing day with the cousins. And I definitely discovered new trails in Botanical Gardens. Fun day out.
Day out in Sentosa today before sending the dad off to the airport. Saw the media reporting on the breaking news of the lost AirAsia flight at the airport. Cousins came over later in the evening for a little wine rendevouz and a spontaneous supper decision from Chomp Chomp. I can finally satisfy my sambal stingray craving!
The day of our wedding celebratory lunch and tea ceremony has arrived!
Woke up early, dressed up, did my hair and makeup. Waited for everyone to turn up at home before proceeding with the tea ceremony. Drove to Regent Hotel's Summer Palace restaurant for our celebratory lunch. It was a simple, casual but intimate affair. The husband put on the batik attire that an aunt bought for him, and I can't help but be reminded of my own dad.
Ate our fill, took loads of photos and had a wonderful time together. I feel awfully blessed to be surrounded by so much love. Family truly matters.
Headed out to Clarke Quay this afternoon with the dad and husband, in hopes of catching the bumboat cruise ride. Mom decided to join us on a spontaneous whim. We went there, only to find out that it's pouring heavily and we couldn't do much, except to sit at TCC cafe and have a cuppa coffee. Took the train back to AMK and went grocery shopping for the dad instead. Later in the evening, we decided to try our luck again and headed out to CQ once more. It worked this time. We took the night bumboat cruise tour along the Singapore River and Marina Bay. I thought that was pretty enjoyable.
It's Christmas morning in Bangkok! Watching the city slowly come alive while packing up for the airport, it feels rather therapeutic (almost). Headed back to Singapore and was massively craving for my bak chor mee. Split ways with the men after we landed and rushed to satisfy my craving before meeting up with them again to cab home. Took a little rest before heading over to the neighbor's place for a little Christmas get-together.
I definitely felt a little shy at the neighbor's, but they were all really friendly and hospitable. Finally met the Chinese-Indian couple that my mom told me so often about, and had a pretty good conversation with them.
Didn't want to hang out too late, had a little snack with the dad outside before calling it a night. I reckon the early day we had today is finally starting to wear all of us out.
River canal tour this morning, followed by a massive traffic jam on the road, en route to Pratunam Mall. Looks like today is not an optimal day for sightseeing or road travel.
After a day of shopping, foot massage to recharge before attacking the night bazaar.
Visited the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha this morning, followed by another hour or so at the Temple of the Reclining Buddha (aka Wat Pho). It was a definite few hours of non-stop walking and photo-taking. I was pretty amazed by the architecture of the temples, and the amount of work invested in them to retain their beauty over the centuries.
Took the ferry boat back to the train station, had a little siesta/happy hour back at the hotel, before heading out again to Chinatown for shark's fin and seafood. Wasn't particularly impressed with the food. It's an interesting experience nonetheless. The dad wasn't too comfortable with the food served though, and a part of me felt bad and helpless, because I am not too sure what else I can offer him, for dinner at least.
Came back to the hotel afterwards and had an interesting discussion about corruption and progression of Third World countries and First World countries. Wondered if he took offense in what I said, but I don't think I am ever going to apologize for what I know it's right and in my culture.
Oh hello Bangkok! It's been a while. This time round, I brought my hubby and his dad. And you too, have changed for the better, I see. Chatuchak market seemed to have progressed quite a bit, I must say- not as congested and hot as before. Even traffic on the roads doesn't seem so bad too! Maybe it's because it's a Sunday. Let's see what the next few days bring.
Woke up pretty late this morning. Had lunch with Ah Gu. Headed to Gardens by the Bay before giving in to the afternoon heat and going home. Started packing for Bangkok before meeting the cousins on the east coast for dinner. Spent a good couple hours hanging out over Italian food and avocado cheesecake and coffee. Fun night.
Rainy day today. Pretty much spoiling all the plans I have for the whole of today. Can't do Gardens by the Bay, Sentosa or even Clarke Quay. It's a heavy downpour. All the outdoor plans I had, are literally thrown out of the window.
Had Teochew porridge this morning with bro's family, hung out at his place, hoping that the downpour will cease. It didn't. On a spontaneous whim, we decided to head home, get our passports and make our way down to JB for fish head curry. Got our lunch by about 3pm, explored two malls in JB area, before getting stuck at traffic for a good 2 hours.
Got home close to 10pm, and we are all pretty worn out. I can tell the dad is feeling tired. I am definitely feeling pretty much the same way. All I want to do is to take a hot shower, and have a good night's sleep.
Lunch at Komala Villas in Little India. Desserts and souvenir shopping in Chinatown. A little walk in MacRitchie Reservoir. Chicken rice at Pow Sing in Serangoon Gardens before calling it a night, because of the downpour. Today is literally a long and productive day. The rain is spoiling all the evening plans I have. Annoyance.
left: nieces with grandma, making little bracelets this morning. a picture of bliss.
right: christmas lights along Orchard Rd this evening.
A very long and busy day today. Picked up the hubby and dad early this morning from the airport. Brought them to Orchard Road for a lot of walking, before joining the rest of the family for a Chinese vegetarian dinner. Awfully thankful that bro was around this week, and his generous heart for volunteering to drive us around, and checking up on us ever so often. Bro definitely made me feel like family, and I am really glad that he is around, even just to help me be a co-translator between our folks and my in-laws. Feeling thankful for FAMILY tonight.
Bday surprise for Ah Gu at MBS was a huge success!
