Ex's and Oh’s
adxareum:
Despite herself, she laughed, then rolled her eyes at his pun. “Oh, that was bad. And no, you know I don’t do illegal crap.” Did he, though? So much could’ve changed in the time they spent apart, for all he knew she could be the one who had been selling drugs. “I’m still just a suffering art student, as you can tell.” And she held up her hands and wiggled her paint-stained fingers.
Without really meaning to, Areum observed him. She looked for changes, not just in his looks but in his mannerisms too, for anything that was different to when they were dating. A few things about her had changed; the tattoo on her wrist was new, her hair was longer, her shirt was cut just slightly lower. Silently, Areum thanked whatever deity there was that she was wearing more than just leggings and a loose top today and that her lipstick hadn’t faded.
Though she didn’t necessarily want to admit it, he did look good. It was easy to see why she’d been drawn to him even when he barely spoke any Korean at all. And her compliment had been completely honest - the uniform made him look even better, which really wasn’t fair in her book. When she noticed she’d been staring, Areum’s gaze quickly snapped back up to his face.
She knew she should let him get on with his work, but… “I was gonna grab a coffee and a snack, do you want anything?” It had been too long for her to just let him leave without even a small chat, just to catch up. The only conversations they had after their break-up was the occasional drunken text, and now that she had the opportunity to have an actual conversation with him again, she didn’t want to let it slide.
B A O L I N had always been like that. had given in to the opportunity to make not only the people around him cringe, but himself too. he knew the joke based on observation was bad for many reasons, and was even more so embarrassed when it registered that the paint wasn’t even red !!
nevertheless, the officer that swerved backwards as if he actively needed to watch out for the woman's hands to make sure she didn’t lash out and stain his unsullied uniform. a smack in response to the pathetic attempt at making conversation, would have been well deserved and capable of keeping him from doing it again. “ahh, art must be different than i remember... unless you are now the canvas instead of a piece of paper?”
keeping conversation light for the sake of remaining at least slightly professional in his current position as a working officer on the hunt, the man now slacking from his job to converse with an old flame he probably wished he’d not now just run into, was beyond concerned. sure, he believed areum when she had scoffed at the thought of being related to any sort of crime --- but he wasn’t so convinced the officers with their mutt whom was now tugging violently on the jacket of the student baolin had formally been suspicious of, would think the same.
paranoia worried the fact the girl had stopped to talk to him at all was enough to have corruption screw her over. “not from here.” he replied heavily, his attention fixed on the scene across the cafeteria, making certain his colleagues were preoccupied with the holder. “do you want to... talk?” the question came quiet and slow, a pause not long enough for her to answer resting between them before he proceeded to speak. an excuse he’d been forced to use often during the time they had previously dated, rolling off his tongue. “because here and now isn’t exactly the best for me.”

it was like this always, like clock work, as nights wind down, the dancing area of the club closing, leaving just the bar and the main poles open for the employees, tae always ended his shifts this way. drink in hand, usually flirting up some rich patron who’s had a few too many and is willing to open his wallet or his home to taehyung for the night. but recently he’s been sitting here with the same person, no hidden agenda as far as tae knew, most people wouldn’t wait this long to get him into bed, just a simple night where tae buys the rounds and they just…enjoy each others company.
this had been going on for sometime now, a few weeks at best, not that tae minded. some times he wondered if he’d see boalin outside of the club, if that would be okay to hang out like actual friends, but after sometime, he just relinquished their interactions under dim lights and chandeliers, usually tae still in some skimpy costume, sweaty or glittery which ever the night calls for. “what are we getting into tonight dear?” he asks his friend looking over the drink menu with a smile as he walks up from his finished stage. @adbaolin
G U I L T should have devoured baolin as he heard the friendly voice ring a well expected question through the air, but as he threw aged kaoliang, a taste of familiarity and home, down his throat; no emotion of the sort pushed past the intoxicating strength of the liquor that was destined to wear him down the longer he sat on a stool, arched over the bar top and glass.
kim taehyung had initially been nothing more than a lead, a name found scribbled in the corner of papers hidden under a pile of forms on the desk of a “known” corrupt officer, somebody who may very well have been involved in heinous business. finding the younger males day job had been easy. ask enough questions, and somebody would eventually point you in the right direction. he’d begun to slip into the others life slowly, observing from the distance for weeks until he caught the attention of the dancer.
and the way he’d found kim taehyung, was exactly how he was trying to work with the kid. ask enough questions --- “kinmen 58% goryangju.” he answered clearly, turning charming smile toward the face that had become familiar, but had yet to give much away outside of the establishment they met frequently in. “are you due a break already?”
&&. loving you’s a bloodsport / rae + baolin
- &&. Phone in hand, Rae-Sul had been staring at the pixels of her screen for what felt like a lifetime, splayed out lazily on her bed. Breathing out a sigh, her thumb pressed against the green send icon in the bottom right icon of her messaging app.
And she felt nothing.
[ message to: Baolin ] this isn’t working. I’m sorry. I can’t see you anymore.
Rae discarded her phone amongst the many blankets draped across her and rolled over. She sighed again, hugging the soft duck feather pillows closer to her cheek. So that was that. She couldn’t have expected much from fraternising with the enemy. Their relationship - if it could be called that - had been kept under top secrecy. The lovers would meet under the cover of darkness, spending lonely evenings together, and by the time Baolin would awake the next morning, Rae-Sul would already be long gone. No, it wasn’t a relationship, but she knew the young officer wouldn’t be pleased with her means of dumping him. Perhaps he thought he was worth more than a measly text message, he thought wrong.
It didn’t matter all that much anymore, Rae-Sul pushed all regrets to the back of her mind, along with all feelings she may have held for her ‘knight’ in a police uniform. There would be plenty more bed warmers to come along. If she really craved company, she could call Taehyung, his chatterbox would prove enough of a distraction.
It didn’t really matter who came, as long as Rae could convince herself she didn’t need him.
@adbaolin
B A O L I N suddenly felt a sharp pang manifest in his chest, his heart caught in his throat in agony as he read the message that had been printed across his screen, written as clear as the starless sky blanketing seoul this unfortunate night. he’d been naive to believe she was strong enough to carry the weight of their unconventional relationship high on her shoulders, to assume she wouldn’t give in to the concern and fear that came with the romance between law and anarchy. baolin and rae-sul knew exactly what it was they were doing when they had decided to slip into bed with one another, they knew deciding to date would damage their reputations if people got close enough to see what had amalgamated through the use two different souls, and he should have anticipated the separation altogether; but through a damn text? it was baffling. what kind of game was she playing?
with a deep exhaled that tried to relieve him of frustration, the male sat staring at his screen for quite a while. he wished he could ignore the message all together, could pretend he’d never received it or that he was completely on the same page as the sender. but he wasn’t, and he wasn’t the kind of person that could just move past something like this. at first he’d suspected foul play and deception, had worried somebody held a gun to her head, ordering the statement to be delivered straight to baolin, to pull him away from the woman who’d stolen his heart; however he knew he weren’t so lucky, and had come to figure she’d written the message herself, with no outside force demanding it be done. he’d made effort to respond, tried to form a text that would address the one the woman had sent, but time and time again he’d failed.
breaking away from the disheveled paperwork sitting on his dining table in his apartment, wang baolin dragged his fingers through his hair with yet another noise of irritation. he would look further into this disturbance as if he were a detective, would follow his leads until he stood before the perpetrator.
rapping his knuckles on the frame of her door ( as opposed to letting himself in with a key she’d gifted months back ) baolin stood impatient, an emotional wreck. unhappy with how deep he’d fallen, with how easy it was for rae-sul to rattle his bones and destroy his existence. let alone, he’d no clue as to what he’d tell his mother of his split from the goddess. “rae-sul---” he pleaded against the frame, his forehead using the surface for support. “please let me in.”
grumpy together
🌸 @adbaolin
ko mijoo is not someone to get piss off easily. she might get briefly upset for one reason or another, but it’ll last her a few minutes, maybe an hour or two at most. being upset the whole day is just— so time consuming. mijoo has better things to do, frankly, and taking an entire day ( or, god forbid, multiple days ) is certainly not one of them. now that is… usually. every once in a blue moon, a collection of upsetting things just rush on top of her in a matter of hours. like today, for example. to start off, several professors decided to screw her, and every other student along her, over by adding an insane amount of workload by two days because they’d forgotten to give it a few days before and god forbid they move the due date. then, when she’d gotten home to officially unleash that hell on her, it turns out her favorite computer fizzled out on her, and her second favorite was suddenly taking forever to load any kind of program.
that meant that the guy mijoo had set her sights on for hacking was going to have to wait and she’d have to fix those two computers, which, really, shouldn’t take her long but fuck, why’d everything have to go to shit so quickly? just a little break– something that wouldn’t have affected her so badly. for a few moments, she had sat down on her couch with bumi on her shoulder and tried to reason with herself; why be sad? all she had to do was to take one thing at a time, right? one step, do one thing, and she’d eventually get it all done.
but it took a whole two minutes and thirty-four seconds before she decided that that was a terrible idea and that, frankly, being upset sounded a whole lot appealing and way easier than doing any of the previously stated above. mijoo did the only thing that made sense to do— she texted baolin as if nothing had happened, asking if he’d swing by to cure her of her boredom.
which isn’t wrong! it just… isn’t the whole truth. and mijoo’s sure spending time with baolin will make her feel a lot better, it usually does. it’s a long, unfortunately drawn out length of time ( or it feels like that to her, anyways ) before mijoo hears her doorbell ring, but when she does hear that sweet, shrill sound, she’s practically jumping to her feet and racing to the door. there’s a rapid beeping sound, and then it swings–
“hey! you’re here, finally!”
T H E Y say people that find themselves in love with one another eventually begin to look the same, that a couple will without knowing, make changes to themselves to match like almost perfect reflections of one another. love dresses them in similar fashion and alters the curvature of a bright smile. they develop a similar sense of humor and even begin to carry speech patterns and tones that sound the same. for people like mijoo and baolin, they develop their own shared cliches, and on this particular day, it seems that the former neighbors turned best friends have woken to lives of nothing but irritation.
wang baolin huffs as he stands outside the females home, his finger hovering over the bell for quite a long moment as he tried to suffocate his restlessness. he doesn’t yet know that mijoo had summoned him due to her own frustrations. he simply believes the text he’d received ten minutes earlier, and tries to find himself an attitude to disguise his misery until he thought fun had devoured discord.
greeted by a cheerful grin seconds after his finger had connected with the doorbell, the male mentally groans and bounces a faux smile across his features. it’s always good to see mijoo, she always does find a way to comfort him when he needs it, and her smile was enough to still a frown even if it is only for a moment. “hey! it didn’t take me that long to get here.”
moving into the woman's abode, baolin steps out of his shoes and exhales a sigh that could easily have been mistaken for satisfaction. had she been waiting longer than the standard ten minutes it took him to drive from the small dairy he’d stopped into for comforting chocolates, where he’d received the message? “never mind though. i’m here now, and that’s all that matters.” he teases, offering the small box of chocolates he’d stuff in an inner pocket in his jacket, as his other hand playfully ruffled her fringe.
stepping further into her home, baolin abandons mijoo at the door and makes his way over to the main sofa, collapsing face first into the cushions, exposing his grief with a groan into the chair. he treats her living space as if it were his own, comfortable under the ceiling with little shame. “what do you want to do, mijoo?” he asks, turning to his cheek so he could speak clearly. “it’s getting late. have you had dinner yet?”
where there is pain, there is love
Yejin is a big believer in where there is good there will be bad. If she is having a bad day, it would mean that something good is coming her way soon and vice-versa. The thought always brought her a peace of mind because it proves how transient situations really are and how time does really heals. From the moment she stepped out of the apartment, Yejin doesn’t stress as much as others knowing she had spilled coffee on her shirt in the morning or the fact that she forgot her homework assignment at home… or the fact that she forgot to revise her exam and now won’t get extra points… or…
Yejin sat down at a bench in the school’s campus, earbuds on as she watches the students pass by. ‘I’m so tired of today.’ She finally admits, to herself, but she admits. Expressing defeat isn’t like her and expressing it even just to herself is enough to bring her down. It is barely noon and everything is suddenly crumbling under her. All it took was one morning and everything else followed like a domino effect. Alas, she stood up after a few minutes to finish her last class of the day and head back home.
Without regards of other people or her surroundings, she speeds through her classmates in order to the the first down the stairs instead of being stuck in the human traffic jam. Yejin, as quick as she’s moving, misses a step on the last few steps and her left foot rotates inward and before she could grab the railing, her foot takes all the weight of her body. Yejin yelps at the shock of pain thumping in her ankle and she feels a classmate pulling her up. “I’m fine. Thank you.” She mumbles, weakly smiling at the person and exists the building with a limp.
@adbaolin
P R O T E C T I N G the people of seoul has been a full time job wang baolin has embraced since he’d been forced to move to south korea. while he disliked the city for most of his earlier weeks in foreign land, it didn’t take long for a realization to dawn upon him. he was sent there for a reason. the people needed to be rescued; and as if her were some kind of bizarre comic book character, baolin thought himself a suitable superhero. a regular, everyday, morally sound, superman.
it took 0.0025 seconds for baolin to spot a limping girl making her way off school grounds, and even less time to run to her. he initially sees her as one of the millions of children living in the city, broken and suffering, in need of his grandeur. he leaps at the opportunity to don a cape, takes himself away from the follow up with the schools principal he had decided to pursue without the knowledge of his captain, to respond to a more urgent matter. the girl wasn’t getting very far with her limp, after all, and with all of the trouble that had been surfacing in the area, baolin couldn’t ignore or leave her be.
standing in her path, so she has no choice but to still her movement, baolin turns his eyes to the ground to observe the limb causing the stranger grief, the ankle that had most likely swollen in her sock and shoe. “miss---” he clears his throat, returning his attention to her young face with a pitiful smile on his. “do you have very far to walk?” he’d figured the girl had sprained her ankle, based on the way she had hobbled and was now refusing to commit to placing the injured foot flat on the ground. she’d only cause more damage, if she wasn’t careful. “would i be able to help you? i’m wang baolin.”
Ex's and Oh’s
adxareum:
@adbaolin
Areum heard the rumors when she entered the art studio. Apparently someone on campus had been caught dealing drugs and now the cops were questioning everyone and searching everything.
It didn’t bother her much - she never did drugs, she never cared much for those who did, and she did enjoy gossip like this. And so she listened to what the others were saying as she worked on her latest designs, using it as a sort of background music.
Eventually, she was done and a little exhausted, so she made her way to the cafeteria to get some food and a cup of coffee. It was her usual routine, absolutely nothing out of the ordinary, and she barely paid attention to what was going on around her before she saw him.
The last time she’d seen him was when they’d broken up. After that, he’d slowly drifted further and further away from her and whilst their break-up had been mutual, the loss of contact hurt. It hurt to think that she’d only been of use to him during the time they were together and afterwards he no longer felt the need to be around her, to talk to her even.
But there he stood in his police uniform. Areum knew she could just walk past him and ignore him, maybe even catch his attention and then ignore him if she was being petty.
It would be a shame, though. The time they’d had together had been wonderful, and she knew she’d regret never properly talking to him again.
“So,” she said as she approached him, now hyperaware of the paint stains on her hands, “you look sexy in your uniform.”
T W O officers dressed in pristine uniforms walked from one end of the cafeteria to the other, guided by a german shepherd with a nose twitching in search of any evidence of the reported drug on campus. they’d already covered various classrooms and would be around for the rest of the day searching for any illegal substance.
behind them, walking on his own ( as he was typically seen distant from those he’d work with ), was wang baolin. he stood near the exit and entrance with eyes skimming across students, hoping to catch nervousness on the face of a student that had bought from the already arrested dealer, and right when he’d though he’d found a stir, a male glancing again and again at the two officers and their dog, she distracted him.
stunned and caught off guard, baolin felt his heart sink in his chest, the voice he’d once shared loving whispers with had once more called to him. it had been a while since the former lovers had been in a room together, years, and he was forced to turn to her in surprise, a smile hesitant on his lips.
gong areum was as he remembered her; a beautiful young woman with a charm about her he’d not experienced anywhere else. she was playful then, and she was playful now, and who was he to ignore the compliment? “oh--- do you really think so?” he asked, bowing in thanks before scoffing and shaking his head at the mess she wore. if only he could return the favor. “ahh, are you in trouble? have i caught you red handed?”
