had to write this short review for my journalism class, thought i should post it somewhere - flume @ splendour in the grass 2016

Muscles aching as the third day of Splendour in the Grass rolled around, a sea of punters made the trek to Splendour’s largest stage to witness electronic producer Flume bring the festival to a close. Harley Streten’s set was both visually and audibly impressive from the beginning as huge hanging geometrical shapes glittered above his mixing desk. Streten opened with his new song Helix, a dramatic and theatrical piece, mesmerising the crowd with strong flute sounds, which then dropped into quick pulses which he accompanied with hundreds of strobe lights as the Amphitheatre audience of over 25 000 people explode. The producer paused a couple of songs into his set to reminisce on his experience as a boy from the Northern Beaches of Sydney who travelled to Byron Bay to attend the festival – to his current experience headlining to the largest audience for an Australian act in Splendour history. “This is so surreal for me. I watched the Pixies play here in 2010! Thank you all for your support, let’s fucking do this Splendour!” he announced. Flume took advantage of his massive platform to shine a light on emerging Australian talent, to deliver Vera Blue, Ngaiire, Remi, Baro, Kučka and Jess Kent with the opportunity to play to a huge crowd they weren’t yet able to experience. Visibly overwhelmed, Flume ended his set by shouting “Fuck you Pauline Hanson! Goodnight!” leaving the audience wide-mouthed and in awe to catch the confetti floating over their heads.
