In this verse, Addison was going through a rather rebellious phase and she ran away from home at the age of sixteen. Her brother had been diagnosed with MS and she couldn’t handle it, so she ran away from home and didn’t look back. By eighteen she was married and had a child, Tabby. Her married life wasn’t ideal, and by the time she was in her early twenties, she started to look for a way out. She’d reached out to her brother’s wife, who assured her that she would find her a job in her research lab when Addie explained to Carla she needed to better her life. She hadn’t told anyone about her daughter because she wanted the job to be concrete before she brought her along. 

On the way to Central City, she got into a particularly nasty accident in Central City, where she was in a coma for quite some time. Carla and Caitlin found her, and identified her as Addison Snow, because Addie herself did not remember anything from her life. As time went on, she recovered a few memories, most of them dealing with her parents and brother, but everything else was a complete blank. One thing she never really got over, was that empty feeling inside of her. The need to fill that hole inside of her, Addie went to college and then medschool to become a pediatric surgeon.

“Mom, have I ever mentioned that you’re super embarrassing? Cause you are.” There was no reason that her mother needed to come with her on her first day at the new school to talk to every single one of her teachers. She’s perfectly capable of taking care of herself. 

“Hey I am not trying to be embarrassing” she countered as she looked at her daughter. Considering the amount of time she spent working and in school, she wanted to stay as involved as possible in her own kid’s education. “I just want to make sure that they know that I’m an involved parent”

I know that there’s nothing I can really do over the years that I missed being a part of your life. Although there is never a day that doesn’t go by when I wish that I could go back, and prevent ever being apart from you. And I know that buying you gifts now isn’t the same, but I hope you know that I love you so much. And that I am glad that you are back in my life, and that I will try everything in my power to make up for everything I missed. I love you so much sweetheart.

Alex,  It has been an immense pleasure to watch my niece fall for you as you have brought all forms of happiness into her life. Something I was certain would never happen again after what happened to her. Although there isn’t much I can give you in thanks of the happiness you bring to Caitlin, I hope you know that I love you dearly, you are like a second daughter (even if Caitlin is my niece) to me, and I am happy that you are also in my life.
