I’ve got twenty minutes of this audio left and I’m not okay. This is horrifying. And gorgeous. And genius. And I haven’t been this emotionally devastated by a Benny story since Continuity Errors. And I’m in love with Brax. Please send help.
If you think you’re not okay with twenty minutes left wait til you finish it…
Good to know “Crystal of Cantus” can still ruin people ten years after the fact.
Brighton Comic Con 4-5 Jun’16: Classic Dredd - Mick McMahon
Finally, one of the reasons that I went to the Brighton Con this year was to catch up with th’ main McMahon - Mick, of course!
I met Mick for the first time at last year’s FCBD in Forbidden Planet, London (2015), but before I managed to get his autograph he had left as quickly as he had appeared - would I ever get his autograph again, never mind a sketch?!
So, it was with a spark of hope in my circuits that not only did I get Mick’s autograph, but a cracking Judge Dredd pencil sketch, too - zarjaz!
Top: Mick’s original pencil sketch - sadly a little too light for the blog.
My clumsy attempt to brighten Mick’s perfect pencil work!
This is fantastic!
The 2000 AD Thrill-Cast Supplemental: Mick McMahon, Part 1
A seminal Judge Dredd artist and a towering figure in British comics, Mick McMahon is a remarkably humble and down-to-earth artist.
Originally brought in to mimic co-creator Carlos Ezquerra’s style on Dredd’s first stories, he went on to develop his own unique style and was responsible for the ‘big boots’ look of Dredd’s outfit as well as many iconic covers and key moments for the future’s greatest lawman.
He also brought new and inventive styles to Sláine and Ro-Busters before going on to co-create the incredible The Last American. The 2000 AD Thrill-Cast sits down for a two-part interview with one of the greatest 2000 AD artists of all time.

Tony Luke. Photo: Kevin Jon Davies I’m very sad to report the passing of comic creator, animator and illustrator Tony Kuroizumi-Luke, who has died after a long battle with cancer – but who, despite often being in pain in recent years, battled it with every fibre of his being and continued to create stunning art and developing new projects. His sister Fran Harris announced the sad news on Facebook…
