What if they managed to stabilise Tony after the endgame, maybe even saved his hand, which is highly unlikely, but still... But he doesn't remember, well, most of it?..

To protect Tony's mentality they might not tell him the whole superhero thing and let him live an ordinary life...as a mechanic.

They visit him of course, Stephen more often than the others. Definitely not in his wizard clothes.

Tony sees scars on Stephen's hands. Tony sees sadness in Stephen's eyes. Tony starts asking questions.

Stephen tells him about how he had his car crash.

Tony doesn't push it any further, not with Stephen. But Peter... Peter could give him more answers. And one day Tony asks Peter about his own scars.

Peter goes all red. They strictly forbade him to tell Tony the truth. They made Peter sware. They told him it was for Tony's own good. So Peter answers what he was told to. "You had a car crash", he says, "a nasty one", he adds.

Tony is not stupid. He can put two and two together. Ofcourse he thinks it was that very same car crash. Ofcourse, well OFCOURSE Tony thinks it was his fault. He feels responsible for Stephen damaging his hands.

But what's more important he starts wondering why they were in it together in the first place?..
