🙏🏻The Last Hope🙏🏻

I think back to my life before the war. It's been so long. The memories of how things used to be are fading from my mind, desperate to protect itself from what I have lost.

The bright orange trees of Gaza. A vibrant reminder of my ancestors who fled here during the Nakba. We were orange farmers for generations before I was born, and immigrants in the land I call home. I would see my children play around the orange trees and think of my grandparents. And their parents. Now, there are no more orange trees, no more life, only the smell of death and bulldozed land where they stood.

The smell of sage reminds me of my grandmother. It reminds me of running home from school in the rain to see her. She would always drink her tea with sage and wrap me in a towel to hold me, sharing a small cup. I love her more than my heart can find the words. I find comfort in drinking the same tea and thinking about her kind soul. She made me a better man for my children. But, the memories dont come easily anymore, now that the sage is gone.

Coffee and cigarette smoke is what I think of with my father. I can not forget his soul. As I write, the memories are all running through my mind, as if I stopped thinking. He was martyred where he sat. On my doorstep, drinking coffee and smoking a cigarette. I sit looking at that spot sometimes. I feel like my heart could burst from my chest. But he taught me to be a superhero to my children. As a father we keep going to provide everything no matter what.

May God have mercy on him and place him in spacious gardens. 🤲🏼🤲🏼

I will always keep moving forward for my children. We want to leave this place full of nothing but heartache and pain. My wife lost so much more. Both of her parents, her brothers, their wives, their children.

Please help us to eat, and to escape here

Every day the sound of war planes and drones continue. Second and minute and hour. The sound of bomb 💥 or gunshots fill the air. Shells hitting buildings. The sirens. The screams. The smell of burning and rotten flesh. The dogs eating bodies.

I lie awake at night. I can't sleep. The pressure to find safety is too high. Simple stitches to my babys hand from shrapnel in the broken walls of pur home mean we might not eat. I already had to buy a tent because the army moves closer to us every day. We will need to leave soon.

We need to leave from here. I don't care where. Anywhere where my children are safe. My children wake at night screaming what if we are next? I lie and tell them everything is okay.
