look. I’m a HUGE Monty Python fan. I was raised on the stuff. I even paid to see Eric Idle and John Cleese a few years ago. It was one of the best nights of my life.
but I hate Nigel Channing.
Not because he replaced Dreamfinder. I just don’t think he’s a good character, strong enough for the ride, or a particularly good frontman for imagination. Also he turned Figment into a brat.
Same. Figment seems more obnoxious and also pretty annoying as well. He’s cute but he’s all over the place, making it forced into your face. Dr. Channing is alright, even though I haven’t seen Dreamfinder ever to be honest, but I would prefer Idle in a better role instead of a frontman.
Dreamfinder and Figment, in their time together, worked as the Right and Left parts of the brain. Dreamfinder was more of a father figure. He was well versed in the different roles of the imagination and was caring and careful and loved Figment unconditionally. Figment was less of a jerk and in your face. He was more like a curious child. He wanted to learn more, but was able to sit back and listen and take it all in.
they balanced each other. With Nigel being too strict and “my way is the right way”, Figment no longer has that balance figure and is just being shoved in the background, which I think explains where the overbearing attitude came from. He no longer was respected and given room to explore and learn and was desperate to be a part of it all again.
That makes more sense with Dreamfinder and Figment, rather with Nigel. I would’ve loved to see this happen but I heard footage was rare and cannot be discovered unless you’ve been on it (which I haven’t). It’s kinda sad to see Disney in that direction, maybe they were trying to make that Nigel was learning something but it kinda went downhill as soon as his strictness came it. I wouldn’t label Figment as an “experiment” But the song is pretty catchy and kinda sweet in its own way.
yeah, technically Dreamfinder made Figment with his own mind, too. I’ve been reading Ron Schneider’s book (the original Dreamfinder) and he was very detailed with how they created both characters and what they were supposed to represent. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zbwM-sZWbM Nigel would have been a fun character to include in the Figment comics, for sure though.
