"How mesmerizing," Adam spoke bitterly as he stepped over a log. Where was he? Oh, just the Blair Forest. According to students and teachers, this place is supernaturally haunted. Two kids have been running in and out of this place trying to confirm the rumors.Â
Adam couldn't resist such a claim. Saturday was a great day to explore. One small issue was that Adam didn't bring any weaponry. As he entered the forest, his eyes were focused straight. He didn't bother to see the fauna moving around. Or the eyes that followed him.Â
He did look at the natural beauty that the forest created. Beams of sunshine peeked through the branches. Like shy children gazing at a new visitor. Adam looked towards the ground, trying to locate the pathways that other people could have created. He mustn't been the first to enter the eerie forest, yes?
Soon enough, the forest had to respond. Adam began to hear cryptic words, playing with his sense of hearing. He stopped in his tracks, sighing heavily.
"ton uoy lliw brutsid."
"Sorry. Your dialect butchered that statement. And honestly, I have no time to speak to you."
"won nrut kcab."
Adam rolled his eyes and continued down the pathway. Before long, a congregation of different garbled voices flooded his ears. Adam's eyebrows lowered. They all seemed to be screaming for him to leave. It took a moment to recognize they were speaking in reverse.Â
"Why do you want me to leave so badly?" he asked, looking about. The eyes were all around him, but none got close. He pursed his lips and blew out a frustrated air. "Way to be rude to your guest," he added sarcastically, before moving along his way.Â
In retort, the forest forced vines to grow drastically, blocking Adam in his tracks. Adam remained stoic and worked his way around them. Soon, the voices became screams. They were frantic in their attempts to make him leave.Â
But then...they went silent.
"I see," Adam said, gazing down at the ground. A gravestone stood before him, vines protecting it. Adam read the name.Â
"Heather Florence, hm? Are you scared of me?"
A rare smile appeared on Adam's face. "I can see why you're so defensive. I look too much like your fiancee."
"And my aura, or whatever, is a bit off."
Adam took a moment to analyze the area. He lowered himself to the grave. He rose a hand to touch the vines; they snapped at him, but he didn't show any reaction to the strike. Blood fell off of his hand. The vines slid back. "You don't want to be found, do you?"
The vines rose back up and wrapped around Adam's hand. An energy began to emit from it, letting go after a moment. The blood was gone and the scratch was healing quickly. "All I wanted to know was what existed in here."Â
With that, Adam began to leave.
"Also, protect the children who enter here. This place is far too dangerous, right?"
