You can adopt even small animals, such as guinea pigs and hamsters, in NEPA shelters, including the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter in Clarks Summit and the Dessin Animal Shelter in Honesdale! Choose adoption instead of purchasing small animals and rabbits from petstores.
Guinea pigs and hamsters are often $15-20 to adopt in our local shelters. Not only that, but they are usually cared for well, especially at the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter.

Bernard is very strong and pulls on leash, but he likes food so he can be trained to walk nice. He is friendly and likes to be pet! Adopters with other dogs will need to do a meet & greet, and Bernard will need to be cat tested if adopters have a cat.

Billie is an adult, female wirey hair mix. She is about 25lbs, a nice medium size!
Billie is SO affectionate and friendly. She pulls a bit on a leash, and will be housebroken once on a schedule.
Billie is compatible with other dogs, and seems to enjoy the company of cats as well. She has a nice, even temperament.
Billie will also need regular brushing to keep her fur from matting. But she tolerates bathing, nail clipping and brushing so well, it is effortless!
Sweet, happy Molly is a 13 year old female beagle. She loves to stroll around, take in the smells, and attention from people!
Molly is compatible with other dogs, and although she seems interested in cats - she seems to be compatible with them as well.

Mr. Moe is a super cute, gangly, goofy shepherd puppy. He is friendly, energetic, and seems to really like other dogs. He can be cat tested if an adopter has cats.
Due to his age and energy, he may be best in a home with older kids (puppies jump and nibble).

He can be cat tested if an adopter has cats, and a meet and greet is suggested if an adopter has a dog.

This is Kelly! She's an adult yorkie/shih tzu/pekingnese mix female. She is in foster care while she learns to trust people, being handled, being around other dogs, and she's learning to cope with all those changes. Kelly is a calmer dog - very easy to handle and walk. Once she trusts you, she enjoys being held. When she gets nervous she does react somewhat, but once she gets used to her new surroundings and settles in, she takes everything in stride. If you are interested in Kelly, please contact the shelter.
Little Kahlua is a 1 year old, female Dachshund. She's very shy in the shelter environment and therefore quite nervous. She's 100% housebroken, and would do best in a home without children.
Kahlua was recently returned for reacting towards kids. She's very nervous around them, and its best to avoid them entirely if you adopt Miss Kahlua.
Kahlua will need a meet and greet if an adopter has dogs, and can be cat tested if an adopter has cats.
Bob is an awesome dog! He is an adult malamute mix, male. He is a bit nervous in the shelter environment (new sounds, smells, sights). Once he's comfortable he smiles, prances around and enjoys being petted. For his size, he walks pretty well on the leash and likes to run around and play in the outdoor dog-run. He's a big goofy boy!He seems to be forward when meeting a new dog (though it is co
mmon in the malamute breed to be self-confident when meeting new dogs) but he doesn't seem to be aggressive. A meet and greet will be required if an adopter has dogs.
He can also be cat tested if an adopter has cats.
Due to his thick coat, Bob will need regular brushing and will shed his coat seasonally (lots of fur).
Nelly is a senior, male, collie mix. He is easy going, easy to walk, affectionate, and seems to not mind the company of other animals (though meet & greet is still suggested). He is also housebroken, and would benefit from losing a few pounds.

Todd is a 4yr old hound/boxer mix. He is a happy, go-lucky kind of dog. He is playful when you are, but he's just as happy to sit still if you want him to. He's fantastic with people, but he is picky about his canine company - so a meet and greet would be required for adopters.
Chase/Ace is a 4 year old, neutered male German Shepherd.
Chase is very protective of his people/home and will need an owner who understands this, and works to manage him.
